  1. What did you love when you were younger but fear as you get older? was a question on r/AskReddit today and my answer was:

    Heights.

As a younger man I clambered about buildings, ruins, mountains and so on without a qualm but in the latter part of my 40s vertigo began to take hold and it has grown worse

  6. Biophobia: people’s aversion to nature

"Evidence suggests that biophobia is a growing trend in many parts of the world. Ironically, this trend has emerged during a time when increasing people’s biophilia has become a critical challenge for ensuring the sustainability of the human relationship with nature. As highlighted in this review, biophobia can harm public health and undermine conservation, but lacks unified research. Although foundational theories and concepts have been established, a deeper and interdisciplinary understanding of the manifestations, drivers, and feedback loops associated with the human aversion to nature is urgent." >>

  11. #phobias It's so frustrating when deeply personal #fears feel illogical and resistant to rational understanding – like a hidden, irrational part of ourselves. 😩 scrollbots.com

  12. #phobias Recognized persistent, overwhelming #fears and anxieties as a relentless, inescapable pull, like battling a strong tide, and acknowledged the exhausting nature of this struggle. 🌊 scrollbots.com

  13. Today and the next while is going to be difficult, but at least in an expected way.

I was taking the highest dose of #Buspar as you can safely take, which was very effective in helping me with #cptsd related anxiety, OCD related intrusive thoughts and anxiety, and many #phobias I have.

My dose was lowered as it can make nerve pain and movement disorders worse, which it was in my case.

My body needs to adapt, and I'm in a panicky hellhole today.

    But it will be better.

  17. Not to boost my own toots or anything, but please have a look at my last one about #ThePhobiaFiles - this idea has been brewing for a while and I’m finally starting to put it together.

  19. Spiders. Heights. Tight spaces. Statues. Violence. R*pe.

I’m beginning to curate a list of my own phobias/triggers for #ThePhobiaFiles - something I’m cooking up for the new year. A series of essays/monologues about the things which frighten us, as often ridiculous as outright scary, but which have, at some point, probed their greasy fingers into the folds of our collective amygdala and whispered ‘Here I am. What are you going to do about it?’

    What are you scared of?

  20. In a hazing act when he was 13, this writer was stuffed into a small steel trunk. “As the lid closed, and I heard the latch snap shut, the darkness descended upon me.” That led to severe #claustrophobia, which he is still trying to write his way out of. Now he has investigated of the root causes of #fear and it’s different types: primal, rational and irrational, and what #science says about how to face fears and shake #phobias.
