CW: Asking for advice on blood/injury phobia (and fainting)
Someone I know has a #blood/injury type #phobia—the kind that causes full-on #fainting, not just stress/fear.
I'm trying to help them get through a blood test. (The phobia is so severe that just *discussing* the topic can cause a faint.) If anyone has advice, *especially* from direct experience of this, I'd be grateful.
Looking to address both the fear and the faint response.

As a teen, I decided to call it my lucky day. After collecting data, I can confidently state, no day is more boring & average than a Friday the 13th. Nothing bad or great has ever happened to or for me on that day.
In #Thailand, they remove 13th floors. Some replace it with a 12a'th floor. Once in our condo, the lift got an update and they forgot the patch, so for about 24h, we had a 13th floor.

It's tough being shy. Especially around celebrity. I can talk the good talk, between you and I, plan. But no. It's the principle of the crucible. Until we are in a situation, until something applies fire to the contents constrained with in that ceramic vessel, we don't know how we will react.
Except I do.
My heart races. My palms sweat. I'm uncomfortable, and maybe tremble. I can't look at people's faces. I have to leave. I find excuses, any excuse to disappear. I panic.
I already missed my opportunity to hang out with my favorite creator, having become a SFWA member and a professional writer with plenty of time to do so. They died. I suspect I'd miss the opportunity for another if it arose.

I had my next dental appointment today. The dentist didn't have a dental assistant (she was stuck in Sydney), so he asked me to hold the suction myself after he positioned it..
This meant that he would say things like "that's perfect, Aby.. right there."
After the appointment he was going over my treatment plan with his supervisor, and talking about my dental phobia. At one point he said "You've been SO good about this. I'm so proud of how much work you're doing in coming here.. really proud of you!"
