  6. "One for Phil" Oliver Nelson (More Blues and the Abstract Truth, 1965)
One of my early Jazz passions. I remember exactly when I first heard it: having dinner alone my glass of wine in hand and the world stopped at 35 seconds into the music. This is a wonderfull ballad with Phil (Woods) himself playing the alto saxophone; Oliver Nelson's arrangement, I believe, was penned during the recording session!
    Gorgeous!

  11. Phil Woods Quartet - Woodlore

It's weird initially running into Phil Woods because of Steely Dan's "Doctor Wu" on Katy Lied, but that's how I first encountered him.

Woodlore is his second outing as a leader, in 1956, and while brief, it's quite a good time in quite a "live" studio space.

He's joined by John Williams (piano, and no, not that one), Nick Stabulas, (drums), and Teddy Kotick (bass).

It's hard to choose a saxophone solo by #PhilWoods! But I'll choose this one anyway:
