  3. Today’s lecture was on disjunctivist accounts of #hallucination. The students looked somewhat perplexed, but I’m betting that they understood more than they realised. They just don’t see yet how it constitutes an explanation of the (seeming) character of hallucination. #PhilPerception #disjunctivism

  11. I’m excited to be teaching #philosophy of #mind, with some #PhilosophyOfAI and #PhilPerception mixed in, at every level this year from first year through to Masters. I just hope I can keep track of what I’m supposed to be teaching to whom! 😅

  16. It’s true that surprisingly few philosophers have worked on smell, taste and flavour (though thankfully that’s changing). I think that says something both about #philosophy and how dominated by vision we are as a species and a culture… #PhilSmell #PhilTaste #PhilPerception

  19. Is compressed music bad for the ears? This experiment (done on actual guinea pigs) suggests so, though the two pieces would NOT seem of equal loudness despite both measuring 102 dB since loudness is a subjective measure… #PhilPerception #hearing www.musicradar.com/music-tech/s...

  22. Yes, though it’s difficult to synthesise a wide range of odours because our olfactory repertoire is so vast as to be practically infinite. #olfaction #PhilPerception bbc.com/news/articles/cgkjz3r1

  23. Fun fact: we tend to think of our visual field as extending in front of us, and indeed most of it does, but the binocular visual field also extends slightly *behind* us on either side giving a combined width of over 180°! 🤯 #PhilPerception
