An interesting short essay on choosing the time to act:
https://bigthink.com/mini-philosophy/kairos-the-ancient-greek-art-of-knowing-when-to-act/
Interesting enough that a lengthier exploration might be warranted.

Intervista un po' lunga ma che vale la pena leggere perché ricca di spunti per gli appassionati dell'argomento.
Stavo ricopiando le cose più importanti ma alla fine dovevo ricopiare l'intero articolo.

Why chaos gives us purpose. Science says it’s okay to be a bit messy. Some minds need disorder to feel alive.

Data and information are never neutral. Seeing Like a State should be required reading for all statisticians, data scientists, and 'if you can't measure it, you can't manage it' cohorts. As I've mentioned before, stats is tossed into maths curricula despite being more about methodology; this talks about historicity.

Finally, you get my FULL mathematical conceptualization of a 1:1 conversion between Eorzean calendar dates and Gregorian calendar dates.
Enjoy! (Or if you hate math, suffer!) But with love. 💙

EDIT: TFW you find you redefined a word instead of explaining it.
Oops, and fixed! The key moment:
True mathematical randomness: quarter lands on heads 100 times in a row with low probability but zero shame
Lived experience of randomness: actually stochasticity, not randomness

Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May [Shared]
Sometimes you slip through the cracks: unforeseen circumstances like an abrupt illness, the death of a loved one, a break up, or a job loss can derail a life. These periods of dislocation can be lonely and unexpected. For May, her husband fell ill, her son stopped attending school, and her own medical issues led her to leave a demanding job. Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered.
A moving personal narrative shot through with lessons from literature, mythology, and the natural world, May's story offers instruction on the transformative power of rest and retreat. Illumination emerges from many sources: solstice celebrations and dormice hibernation, C.S. Lewis and Sylvia Plath, swimming in icy waters and sailing arctic seas.

#ScribesAndMakers 8/23. How many pixies can fit on the end of a paintbrush? Does it matter which end? 2/2
As has been pointed out to me by a very clever and observant philosopher, all of them can fit on all sides at once and still total ZERO pixies.
It's a zero-sum game.
Don't shoot me for calling you a philosopher. I am sure you are a very grounded, earthy philosopher.

This is powerful (like many of her works) and it covers a fair bit of territory. Long but worth a listen. (It could even work as audio-only if that's more your jam.)

Magnificent how you can ctrl+f yourself pretty efficiently to any half forgotten quote by any whichever author imaginable, but try that with Zizek and you'll just find your tired brain struggling to understand why he's talking about staircases.

It really irritates me when people say an individual, or "New Zealand" is too small to make a difference to global heating (for example).
Do they not know that lots of small things add up to a big thing?
Yes, I do understand that our systems mean that an individual can't control all the emissions that they incur to live.I think that there is mathematical error and/or a logical fallacy in the original assertion. Does this fallacy have a name?

Thus, all and everything becomes a matter of reaction and its physique. Does that render questions of freedom or about a primum movens meaningless? Not at all. Questions of freedom are something else, they are not even touched by any knowledge or assumption concerning determinism, voluntarism, randomness, or chaos. Yet, those question, like Wittgenstein had found for the question about god's existence, can have meaningless answers. As a reaction, we can rephrase, or better still, rethink the question. Free will and freedom can address alienation, suffering, whether we are able to live our lives without despair. We may learn in such a question that freedom is about indivuality, violence, and eudaimonia rather than metaphysics and all those things we cannot make sense of. Is there an afterlife isn't even a question about death, but what life can mean and look for. There are more questions to phrase, and whole politics of questioning that we may prevent from fighting escalation. #philosopy

Many wonders could unfold,
We can break the worn out mold,
That only one truth can be told
And that the best ideas are old.I'm not arguing religion
Or what social group I fit in
That's just all about division
Limitations of our vision.May you be free to believe
May you have all that you need
And devise philosophies
That help all people to be free.
