  1. New work:

The Structural Conditions for the Existence of a Universe.

A scale‑invariant meta‑architecture showing how identity, agency, and coherence emerge from negative possibility and operator‑exclusion — up to cosmological scale.

  2. 1/5

  3. Yesterday's "Google DeepMind Paper Argues LLMs Will Never Be Conscious" by
    Emanuel Maiberg
    mastodon.social/@404mediaco/11 -> 404media.co/google-deepmind-pa

pairs well with this discussion of meaning in the tradition of phenomenology: "The Structure of Meaning in Experience: Rediscovering that which has been lost"
by Jacob Bell. From 2021 and not about LLMs, but:

"Meaning is, however, difficult to make explicit in language."

  7. 🔍 Lecture 01 — The Art of Understanding
Before we teach machines to reason, we should ask ourselves: what is knowledge, really?
This opening lecture steps back from the algorithms and starts with first principles.
It's the philosophical foundation the rest of the course is built on. Bring your curiosity. Leave your assumptions at the door.

  12. New paper: “Agency and Architectural Limits: Why Optimization-Based Systems Cannot Be Norm-Responsive.”
LLMs trained via RLHF are constitutive optimizers — every state transition is driven by scalar reward maximization. That architecture structurally prevents categorical norm-responsiveness (truth, moral boundaries, suspension under uncertainty).

  17. 🤖 Is Information Digital?

At the AI Colloquium, Edward A. Lee (UC Berkeley) explores whether objective observation can ever fully capture physical reality. 📡🌍

Using concepts from computer science & information theory, he argues that some knowledge may require embodied interaction – even for machines. 🚲🤖

    📅 5 March | 13:00–15:00 | TU Dortmund

What are the limits of digital representation?

  19. In the rush to scale neural networks, we have fallen into a category error: believing that a perfect simulation of an intelligent behavior is the same thing as the existence of intelligence itself.

  28. Take home message for #philosophy hiring committees: don’t hire a philosopher of #AI. Hire an ethicist, semanticist, philosopher of technology, mind, etc., who does good work in the relevant areas. The rest is window dressing (as I believe @sebastianwatzl.bsky.social was suggesting). #PhilosophyOfAI

  36. Could AI destroy civilisation?
Not through war, not through code gone rogue—but perhaps through something far more familiar.

A reflection on trust, simulation, and the line between help and surrender.
