  1. A good short piece by Jess Phillips on the distortion applied by the US having jurisdiction over offences committed against UK citizens on British territory. See other cases.

  5. some interesting details, the #nsa #backdoored #phillips device runs a 8051 mcu. there's a print subroutine, that pops the return address from the stack, and prints the litteral chars from that address onwards until it finds a byte which has the top bit set. then it returns to the address after this last char. of course this is no calling-convention that any disassembler knows, so it throws them off.

  6. I didn't realize how crappy my wireless #Skullcandy earbuds were until I compared them to my cheap wired #Skullcandy earbuds and then my wired #Phillips headphones. I'm pretty surprised at the noticeable differences I detected from the three listening devices!

The #Skullcandy earbuds in comparison seemed to have a low bitrate or something. The sound wasn't very crisp.

The wired #Skullcandy earbuds sounded good and had a lot more depth...but has that hissing issue when it's sending an audio signal but isn't receiving any sound, and seemed to struggle with clarity at lower volumes (I tend to prefer to listening at the lowest volume that I can reasonably hear the audio in order to protect my ears); it wasn't horrible, but I did notice this. (Disabling the #Dolby audio effects on my phone helped greatly with this issue!)

The #Phillips headphones had even more clarity, with no hissing issues. I am noticing that, at least from what I've tested, headphones tend to have higher quality audio than earbuds, but I'm not sure why that's the case. Maybe it's just the devices I've used thus far.

(Edited because the wired earbuds were actually #Skullcandy earbuds, I was in the dark so I misidentified the device.)
  7. Whatever the new update from #netflix for my #Phillips kinda #SmartTV is, it sucks ass.

  8. If there were a general election today, there'd be around a 20% chance that Reform could win an overall majority.

Note: most of this fieldwork was conducted before Zack Polanski's election as Green Leader and Angela Rayner's resignation as Deputy PM.

  9. I'll be getting a new TV for my new bedroom shortly... My current 49" Samsung 4k LED is ok but I bought it because it was cheap not because it was one of the better ones. It only cost about £450 back in 2017.

I do want an OLED with HDR though, as I'm getting a decent amount of 4kHDR movies these days.

So please feel free to choose what you think is the best make, and/or add your thoughts in a reply. Or share what you've got and how good/bad it is.

Not sure on a budget... I'd like a 50-55" screen size, mainly because of the location. It's only 155cm between 2 doors and I don't want it to fill the space and risk catching it as you walk in and out through doors. So a 55" would be around 120cm wide giving plenty of room. The unit going in that space is also 120cm wide and the current 49" doesn't fill it.

Answers on a postcard to... erm... vote and post below. Feel free to share and get more eyeballs on it. It's been 8yrs since I last looked at TV's and have no idea how the tech has moved on in that time.

  10. Interesting initiative: Philips offers 3D files for spare parts. Currently there seems to be just one, but still, it’s a start. #3dprinting #repairs #spareparts #phillips

  11. Cool.
