Man trifft ja immer mal wieder auf was neues. Vor einiger Zeit spülte mir irgendein Algorithmus eine #Vinyl aus dem R&B-Feld ins Klugofon. Bis dahin kannte ich den Namen Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes noch gar nicht, aber der Sound gefällt mir bis heute. R&B ist bei mir ohnehin eher selten vertreten, und der Philadelphia Sound noch ganz und gar nicht.
Die Stimme, die hervorragenden, oft gitarrenlastigen Arrangements und ganz allgemein der Stil von Wake up Everybody hat es mir aber tatsächlich angetan. Ob man früher doch irgendwie bessere Musik gemacht hat? Das ist sicher reine Geschmackssache…
Was mich überrascht hat, war mein Lieblingssong auf dieser Scheibe: *Don’t leave me this way* kennt der geneigte Radiohörer wahrscheinlich eher von The Communards, die Mitte der Achtziger mit diesem Song Erfolg hatten. Tatsächlich wurde der Song aber für Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes geschrieben, und zwar mehr als zehn Jahre früher!
Ich habe mir heute mal die Mühe gemacht, statt eines Bildes einen kleinen Videoclip zu diesem Album zu basteln. Ich hab das noch nicht so häufig gemacht und muss noch einiges lernen, inklusive einer ruhigeren Hand bei der Kameraführung. Also geht nicht so hart mit mir ins Gericht, bitte… Genießt einfach die Musik!
