  18. Wow #RFKJr sure knows how to tattle on others. Wow so he’s admitting that #Trump also took money from the #PharmaceuticalCompanies, but then says he’s a honest man.

  19. David Armstrong has been a health reporter for decades, so he thought he was prepared for the cost of being sick in America when he was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of 2023. But even he was shocked to find that Revlimid, the drug that keeps his incurable multiple myeloma somewhat at bay, costs almost $1,000 for a daily pill. Here’s his story for @ProPublica about how it came to cost so much and why the price keeps being hiked. When Mark Alles, president of the drug’s manufacturer Celgene, appeared before the House Oversight Committee in 2020, he was quizzed by then-Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.). She concluded: “The drug didn’t get any better. The cancer patients didn’t get any better. You just got better at making money. You just refined your skills at price gouging.”

  21. Pharmanomics (from Macrodose Podcast) dives into the the history of the pharmaceutical industry - asking how it became the leviathan it is today, why it has been able to assert its unchecked geopolitical influence across the world, and whether there is anything that can be done to loosen its grip on global health.

It often is a zero-sum game, though.

More #eBike sales in e.g. California's urban centers can mean fewer sales of #Teslas and less bucks for #Elmo.

Reduced prices for drugs most likely entail less profits for #PharmaceuticalCompanies (prior price optimum assumed).

Oh, and people who double their 30-min commute each day can work an hour less of (unpaid) overtime every working day (only a hint of sarcasm 😉).
