Just watched the 2019 film Dark Waters (in Australia: SBS On Demand) the story of the struggle to get DuPont to admit & take responsibility for harm related to PFOA also known as C8, a ‘forever chemical’ used in the production of Teflon. The main lawyer involved makes a speech at the end that has clear parallels with so many situations today where big rich companies have govt’s captive & there’s nowhere for the little guy to go to to get justice. Harrowing but worth watching… but I don’t want to say more as it might spoil the ending… 😐

Jun 1, 2023 4:22 PM ET"#C8 is today defined as two chemicals—#PFOA and #PFOS—that are part of a class of more than 12,000 substances known collectively as #PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Also known as '#ForeverChemicals' because that’s pretty much how long they linger in the environment, PFAS are used in thousands of products from textiles to #nonstick pans to #cosmetics to FireFightingFoam to #FoodPackaging, and more. The chemicals have been linked to a host of physical ills, including decreased fertility, high blood pressure in pregnant people, increased risk of certain cancers, developmental delays and low birthweight in children, hormonal disruption, high cholesterol, and reduced effectiveness of the immune system."

📝 Landesgesundheitsamt veröffentlicht Studie mit guten Nachrichten für den Landkreis Rastatt!
🩸 Die Belastung der Bevölkerung mit PFOA durch verunreinigtes Trinkwasser ist seit 2018 um 52% gesunken.
🌱 Böden, Grund- und Trinkwasser wurden im Landkreis Rastatt und im Stadtkreis Baden-Baden bis 2008 durch verunreinigte Komposte stark verunreinigt. Hauptschadstoff: PFOA, eine Industriechemikalie aus der Gruppe der PFAS, die extrem langlebig ist.
💦 Die Trinkwasserversorger konnten seit 2013 die Belastung durch umfangreiche Maßnahmen deutlich senken.
Fazit:
💪 Die Belastung im Körper nimmt weiter ab.
💪 Keine weitere PFOA-Anreicherung erkennbar.

Dieser #Film (Vergiftete Wahrheit) basiert auf wahrer Begebenheit. Es geht um den Chemiekonzern #DuPont, der die Umwelt und auch seine Mitarbeiter durch den Einsatz von #PFOA vergiftet. PFOA gehört zu den #PFAS, den sogenannten #Ewigkeitschemikalien. Besonders brisant: DuPond wusste bereits seit den 60er um die Gefährlichkeit und die Folgen von PFOA, verschwieg dies und setzte es trotzdem ohne jegliche Schutzmaßnahmen ein.
