I just wanted to take a moment to point out that both submarine proposals hinged on massive investments into our fossil fuel industry. For the Germans it means buying a crap-ton of our LNG and building an export terminal at Churchill to export tar sands bitumen through the arctic.

Norway has always been such a weird country to me. For years, scholars, politicians, and citizens alike have been calling for the “sweetheart” deal to be renegotiated to better favor Guyanese interests. In recent years, the Guyanese government has passed legislation aimed at improving regulations on oil and gas.

This pipeline is a done deal.
The folks holding onto the notion that Carney’s “not without a proponent” condition is some kind of 4D chess move are kidding themselves; Carney will use some sort of sleight-of-hand to conceal the fact that you and I are paying for this, whether it’s by funneling the money through that ‘sovereign wealth fund’, channeling it through First Nations, and/or some other form of skulduggery.
You can expect all the guns to be aimed at David Eby now too, as well as at First Nations who stand in opposition, as both are the biggest obstacles for our #PetroState overlords to overcome. 🤨

If Carney believed this we'd be rolling out renewables at 'a speed and scale not seen in generations'.Doubling down on oil production makes us more dependent on foreign countries/adversaries since we lack the capacity to refine our own fuel products and in the time it would take to build that capacity we could already be reaping the benefits of a clean energy transition.
I'm so totally exhausted with Canadian politicians pushing this industry propaganda that more oil and gas means greater independence for Canada when the opposite is true.
