The rats are discovering wrapping paper.. What is that noise it makes! Does it have food?

Bonus shot of both older boys letting Baron know where he stands in the scheme of things (he's the smudge hidden underneath)

Introductions continue. The older boys are very chill about it. The younger boys more stressed. Stilton as ever is terrified; he's a nervous boy. Baron wants to stay head rat, seen here trying to dominate, but two adults males in their prime and twice his weight aren't going to make that easy.
I imagine Baron will retry this as he keeps growing.

While it's a bit more for me to deal with, I'm glad my older boys have such confidence in me that when I'm leaning into their cage to clean/swap/tidy stuff, they have no fear whatsoever and climb all over me like they are playing Shadow of the Colossus.

Fermi would like some Out, please. #petRats #rats
Originally, he did not understand that the shelf he's sitting on was attached to the door, and that if I opened the door he'd be carried out over the void. He got upset. I had to pick him up and soothe him.
Now? He sits on the shelf so I pick him up and soothe him.

Quercy is here to inform me that the cage has passed the line from "acceptably ratty" to "immediate need of cleaning."

All three seem to be settling OK. The bigger two are direct nephews of Fizz. They are all related to an extent.
The older two have the sniffles. It's common when they move to a new house, but I took them to the vet on Monday about it to be sure. They're on anti-inflammatories right now. So for the moment they're not being introduced to Fizz and Truffle.
I recently had 12 months where I lost 7 old rats, so I'm just enjoying the youthful energy for now 🙂

This is Cheddar. He shares a dad with the other two, but was born to a different mother about a week later. He is a russian blue agouti smooth - having only known the standard agoutis, his colouring was a revelation to me! He's noticeably smaller than the others, but brave with it - he stands up for himself in wrestles! He has been the bravest with me, the first and furthest to explore in general. We've bonded the most so far 😍

This is Baron, a smooth beige. He is brother to Stilton. He's the second most confident and the heaviest of the three (not much bigger than Stilton though). He is getting braver with being on me. I think he may be the head rat, it's hard to tell and I think fairly fluid anyway.

I got three new rat children almost two weeks ago now! I'm still getting to know them, as they are not comfortable enough for their personalities to show yet.
This is Stilton. He is a russian blue rex. Of the three, he is the most nervous of me and things in general. I have been breaking through slowly. He likes digging and "swims" through loose bedding like a tiny rat shark.
