I like the Vampire lore thing that it's religious symbols that remind you of the sin you have committed, but then I do love the Peter Watts 'Vampires can't process Right Angles' thing.

Peter Watts refs his second novel #Maelstrom as he discusses emergence of self-replicating patterns from random strings in various computing environments but I had memories of #CoreWars floating through my head as I read it all.

Pierwsza część siadła mi jak złoto, więc sięgnąłem po "Wir", czyli kontynuację trylogii Ryfterów. 📚

Trochę się bałem, że Watts nie da rady, bo on jest najlepszy w opisywaniu małych ludzkich ekosystemów zamkniętych na niewielkiej przestrzeni (stacja kosmiczna, podwodna), a tutaj mamy wyjście "na zewnątrz".

Niepotrzebnie, bo wielki świat w 2 połowie 21 wieku jest miejscem nie mniej klaustrofobicznym i posępnym, niż metalowa puszka na dnie oceanu.

Mamy tu "pasy uchodźców" położone na wybrzeżach kontynentów i odgrodzone od reszty lądów, zabójczego wirusa oraz grupę neurotyków z podrasowaną biologią, którzy pałają żądzą zemsty na świecie. Mniam.

Wydanie nie tak ładne jak wznowiona przez Vesper "Rozgwiazda", ale nie mogłem się doczekać kolejnych części - zresztą nie wiadomo czy wyjdą - i sięgnąłem po stare. 😉

No, ugułem - dajcie się wciągnąć w ten Wir. 🌀

I‘m currently reading “#Blindsight” by #PeterWatts. B. is a medical condition where “people who are cortically blind to respond to visual stimuli that they do not consciously see” - which perfectly and smartly refers to the plot.

The German word we have for this condition is “Blindsehen” yet the German title of the German translation of the book is titled “#Blindflug” which roughly translates to “Flying Blind” in English. Sounds similar, but is pointless 😕
