- WHEN THE BLACKBIRD SINGS AGAIN -
I dedicate the painting ‘When the blackbird sings again’ to my father. I began work on the canvas just before he fell ill and passed away not long afterwards. The following year, I picked up my brushes again and completed it in the summer.
I found the inspiration for this painting in the song of the blackbird on those beautiful summer evenings. Sitting in the garden, or in my studio looking out at the top of a pine tree, I would watch the spot where he displayed his singing talents. Whenever I could, I would take the time to listen to him. I always found it magical.
The man standing under the tree in the painting, listening, is me.
When I put the painting back on my easel a few months after my father’s death to finish it, something struck me. Since his death, not a single blackbird had been heard. Not in the spring, nor in the summer. The spot where the blackbird used to sing remained empty all that time. I had to manage without its comforting song, just as I had to manage without my conversations with my father. Was that a coincidence? Who can tell?
It did, however, give me the title for this painting: ‘When the blackbird sings again’. Because one day it will sing again, and then I shall listen yet again.

The big day is fast approaching: an impressive group exhibition featuring 25 international artists, and I’m proud to be part of it. I’ll be attending the opening on 13 September, together with my partner Caroline — who is also one of the participating artists.
The exhibition runs until 1 November, so there’s plenty of time to explore all the works.

Mijn schilderijen “De zee van tijd" en "Mijmeringen over nieuwe avonturen" zijn allebei geselecteerd voor de shortlist in de prestigieuze FIKVA‑competitie. Het is een erkenning die extra bijzonder voelt door mijn grote waardering voor hun inzet voor hedendaags realisme.
FIKVA staat voor: International FiKVA Award voor kunstschilders. Dit jaar, 2026 ontvingen ze 1290 kunstwerken van kunstenaars uit 74 landen. Binnenkort worden de winnaars bekend gemaakt. Ik ben benieuwd, er zitten fantastische schilderijen bij, dus de concurrentie is groot.

My paintings ‘The sea of time’ and "Daydreams about new adventures ’ have both been shortlisted for the prestigious FIKVA competition. This recognition feels all the more special given my great appreciation for their commitment to contemporary realism.
FIKVA stands for: the International FiKVA Award for painters. This year, 2026, they received 1290 artworks from artists in 74 countries. The winners will be announced shortly. I’m curious to see the results; there are some fantastic paintings among them, so the competition is fierce.

- AERIAL BALLET OF PAPER AEROPLANES -
From the top of a beach dune, a bearded man releases hundreds of red paper aeroplanes into the cloudy sky. In the distance stand a narrow hotel and a parked car, lending the landscape a dreamlike quality. The watercolour captures a playful and surreal moment of letting go and freedom.
The drawing was on display at Gelarie Gjol and sold.

THE MAN WHO BANISHED THE STORM
This surrealist drawing depicts a small figure looking out over a vast landscape beneath an enormous, menacing storm cloud.

- SOMEWERE HALFWAY -
This pencil drawing depicts a melancholic dune landscape in which a solitary figure walks between an old car and a tall hotel.
The atmosphere is mysterious and surreal, heightened by the flock of birds.
The contrast between the detailed shading of the grass and the dreamy, misty background makes it tranquil.

In recent months, I have hardly been able to work on my art. Painting or drawing, I just can't bring myself to do it. My mind just wasn't in it, too busy with other things. Since last week, I have picked up my brushes again and am trying to get back into it.
