I was particularly struck by his comments on the tackiness of some of #Murrell's purchases. Even if Scotland, British class sensibilities problematise such spending from every angle.
I think of a late friend's Scots uber-aristo granny reportedly speaking in the 1950s of "the middle classes — the sort of people who own fish knives".

#PeterMurrell pleaded guilty to some charges, and others were dropped.
It's a common outcome. Prosecutors save the cost of a trial. Murrell gets a shorter sentence. Court backlog eased.
But the evidence now remains private. That's unhelpful for #SNP members .
The SNP needs an independent report on how the £600,000 was not ringfenced as promised, and how the motorhome purchase was not spotted. Members need to know why basic oversight failed on big ticket items, and what's the fix.

These alleged thefts are huge. As a young lobbyist in the 1980s, I watched in Westminster how some MPs peer-pressured each other into a lavish lifestyle. Some fell into debt; others lived modestly. What will the trial reveal about the lifestyle of #Holyrood's political class?
