  1. @vbe404 I've been actively advocating for FOSS tools since at least 2017 that allow local data aggregation of personal health data. No one seems interested in this topic. It's shocking. Even now, with the push for data sovereignty in the EU, I see almost no talk on this topic. We need tools to help us maintain our health. Society is getting older so its only going to be more necessary. #foss #personalhealth #agingpopulation #datasovereignty #HealthyAging

  15. Y'all might have noticed a lapse in my posting and commenting lately, it's due to some health concerns.

I got significant issues with my blood pressure, and did a few nights in the emergency room thanksgiving and the Saturday following.

You see, after having quite some discussion a few years back with my (then) doctor about not wanting to get onto medications I could not get off of without causing new systemic problems, she put me on just such a medication.

And what did I do? I tried to get off it.

There is a way, and there are good reasons why she would have been completely unable to do as I had asked; but she might have said as much and I might have avoided nearly killing myself with a coronary or a stroke.

The bottom line is, don't fuck with your meds without the assistance of a doctor. The reason in a nutshell is something called homeostasis.

Homeostasis is fascinating, and I would have been delighted to have been educated about it by any one of the handful of doctors I've seen in the past couple of years, but they all seem to think that they have too little time until their next appointment to invest in keeping me informed about my care.

This experience has absolutely justified my cynicism about medicine in America, and never again will I willingly start a medication that I do not have a complete rap sheet on.

I'm just about stabilized now, though I've been pretty much out of the woods for several days; I have an appointment next week with a coronary specialist, and so I hope to learn more about whats going on from him.

For what it's worth, I'm still walking a mile and a half every morning, and my pulse stays between 85 and 120, and returns to it's typical resting rate of 95 within 2 minutes when I get back home.
