Finished The Skies of Pern, Anne McCaffrey. Delightful return to well-known characters, putting a cap on the series as a whole. Over 30 years after the 1st novel, this gives us logical events & choices in light of all we’ve learned before, quite satisfying. #Pern #SFF

I got to say y'all, medieval artists were a weird lot, judging by how non-well they drew & painted cats. "Bizarre" doesn't cover it, that's for damn sure. Drawing these is utterly glorious. 😆

I'm clearly diving deep into nostalgia as part of my recovery after losing my wife. But so far... I think I'm okay with it. It's been wonderful, and I've reconnected with people I hadn't talked with in years.

Today, I ordered another piece of my old fandom hobby life, that I wish hadn't died off. Logres Weyr was a fantastically talented group of writers and artists, and I got to be part of them for a brief period of time. I can't wait to get volumes 2 and 3 of the zine (I was involved in volume 3) and read through them.

@Palaeojules If you like dragons, try reading some #Pern books by Anne McCaffrey. They're the heroes.

Alright, that's it. I'm halfway through the second of his 3rd Pass novels and I'm done with the Todd McCaffery books. I can't take any more of the bastardization of Pern. It reads like fan fiction with all the bad writing and inane retconning. Flying whers that can go between? The final straw was firestone that bursts in to flame if it gets wet. That doesn't make ANY sense.

So, is just it me or are the Todd McCaffery Pern books... not very good? I'm trying to like them, but so far he's nowhere near the writer his mother was.
