  2. May is #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth and I've been trying to post something about menstrual health every day. Today is day 31 which means we made it to the end! Strap yourself in for a mammoth summary thread with links to all the posts :) 1/36 #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  3. It's day 30 of #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth, and today we're talking standards. Standards exist to make sure that products meet minimum quality and safety requirements, do what they are intended to do, and don't pose any health risks. 1/12 #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  4. For example, ISO 20126:2022 specifies what manual toothbrushes should be made of and how they should be tested to ensure they are safe to use as intended. ISO 5408:2009 is for screws. You get the picture. 4/12 #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth www.iso.org/standard/746...

  5. Products relied on by millions of people every day to manage their periods have no global standard to ensure they are safe and not made of substandard materials. 6/12 #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth

  6. In recent years a bunch of studies have studied different brands of tampons and found all manner of things you probably don't want in your vagina. There's a handy spreadsheet here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets... 7/12 #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth

  9. Hands up if you are surprised to hear there is currently NO ISO standard for period products. Not for tampons. Not for pads. Nothing. 5/12 #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth

  10. Peeps! I've decided to resurrect my blog, Infectious Thoughts using @[email protected]. The first task I set myself was to create a calculator for people to work out how many periods they've had/days spent bleeding! #PeriodFriendlyWorld infectious-thoughts.ghost.io/ever-wondere...

  11. Menopause marks the end of our reproductive years and is diagnosed when someone has gone 12 months without a period. It usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 but it can be earlier or later. In Aotearoa New Zealand, the average age is 51. 2/13 #MenstrualHealthAwareness #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  12. It's important to acknowledge that people can have very different experiences with different combinations of symptoms. Some people breeze through this time without much fuss, while others can be debilitated by it. 7/13 #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  13. Before menopause is perimenopause, which literally means “approaching menopause”. That’s when oestrogen levels start to go a bit haywire and menstrual cycles become more erratic. 4/13 #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  14. Menopause can also be medically induced, for example by surgical removal of the ovaries or being on chemotherapy to treat cancer. 3/13 #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  15. Periods can become lighter or heavier and cycles longer or shorter. Perimenopause typically starts when people are in their forties, but it can start earlier.  5/13 #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  16. Most of us will be able to take hormone therapy (usually just called HRT for hormone replacement therapy or MHT for menopause hormone therapy), to help relieve many of the symptoms. 8/13 #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  17. It's day 14 of #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth, and today's topic is a big news story from this week about the rebranding of an important condition. Say goodbye to #PCOS and hello to #PMOS! Long thread incoming... And it gets personal! 1/16 #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  18. It's May 1, which can only mean one thing... it's the start of Menstrual Health Awareness Month! Each day this month, we'll (Period People Aotearoa) be breaking the silence around this important topic. 1/6 #MenstrualJusticeForAll #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstrualHealthAwarenessMonth
