Some #musicians have #PerfectPitch. Some even have #Synaesthesia. Lucky blighters.

I wonder what would happen if some #mathematicians have a similar neurological and perceptual super powers. But then, mathematicians do possess highly developed visualisation abilities and intuitions, which might well be called super powers.

A new study suggests perfect pitch (ability to identify notes when heard) CAN be learned more readily than we thought... with high accuracy.

#Harmony #PerfectPitch

A question for fellow #musicians and others with #AbsolutePitch:

Since I came down with a cold on Monday, I've been hearing some pitches (especially near C4) up to a half-step below their actual value in my left ear. My right ear is so far unaffected.

What's going on here? Should I be alarmed? Anything I can do to clear it up?

Any info/input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sure my brother has perfect pitch, is really smart and went to college with more than one full scholarship offer and got an aeronautical engineering degree.

But he's also allergic to cats and dogs so on the whole I think I got the better deal.

Never thought of #perfectPitch as a form of #neurodivergence before, or that some people might use it as an excuse to behave like an absolute jackass

But it comes up in these two articles and I’m kinda fascinated now

#mastoPrompt "Violin"

I borrowed someone’s violin
But realized the key it’s in
Was flat a single quarter-tone.
Though not ungrateful for the loan
I gave it back: superior ears
Cannot be burdened with their peers’
Prosaic chores. I’d just as soon
Return it rather than retune.

Perfect Pitch is a bitch (II)

No, people aren't born with perfect pitch. Research found that you can develop it as a child, but only when you're growing up in a music-rich environment.

Which I did.

Perfect pitch doesn't make you a better musician. It can make life more difficult. Transposing can become a challenge, out-of-tune pianos short circuit your brain.

If I play an A minor chord, my brain *must* hear A Minor. If not, I can literally freeze.

I was born with perfect pitch (something science proved to be incorrect, more about that later in another post).

If you're a musician, that can be helpful when you hear a song and want to write it down. It's sometimes a pain in the ass too. Literally.

Can you imagine farting and thinking "Hey, that was in B flat !"?

I had to write notes for a #composition program and Ohhhhh how I dislike it. 😩 usually I have my #music in my head only and write down just the lyrics and maybe occasionally #chords. But I guess it's not too bad to start writing some stuff down. Especially when playing with people who do not have #perfectpitch 🤪
It's the voice #melody for "brother", a new #song that is not recorded yet.
