"Perfect Days" from 2023 is Wim Wender's movie about a cleaner of public toilets in Shibuya in Tokyo. Slow-paced every-day’s routine of a middle-aged man turned out to be a very appealing lifestyle. Working, taking pictures of trees, listening to music, and reading books. And all by himself, not really talking to anyone, not even coworkers. Like a hermit in the middle of a crowded city.

I saw this film in the cinema, and can confirm that it's wonderful, as in full of wonder. Viewers accustomed to films with a lot of action may feel like nothing much is “happening”, but if you immerse yourself in it, there is a deep emotional resonance in store for you.

I saw #SmallThingsLikeTheseFilm #SmallThingsLikeTheseMovie this week based on some good things I'd heard about it. I thought the film was ok, but I had a hard time staying interested. It's a pretty slow film, oftentimes with not much happening, but that's not always a problem for me. With the routine of his job and home life, it reminded me of the film #PerfectDays , which absolutely held my attention the whole time. For whatever reason, this film just didn't hit for me. #SmallThingsLikeThese

Perfect Days, Υπέροχες Μέρες (Wim Wenders, 2023)
O Hirayama (Koji Yakusho) καθαρίζει δημόσιες τουαλέτες στη Shibuya, ζώντας μια ήρεμη και ήσυχη ζωή, ο πρωταγωνιστής ξυπνάει κάθε πρωί την ίδια ώρα, ετοιμάζεται και πάει στη δουλειά του: να καθαρίσει τις ίδιες τουαλέτες. Η ζωή του μοιάζει μονότονη αλλά καμία μέρα δεν είναι ίδια με την άλλη και ο ίδιος φαίνεται να είναι αισιόδοξος κάθε πρωί. Αυτή τη γαλήνη θα την ταράξουν κάποια απρόσμενα συμβάντα.
Υπέροχη ταινία, με χιούμορ, συγκινητική σε στιγμές, πολύ ανθρώπινη και με πολύ προσεγμένο soundtrack. Δείχνει με ιδιαίτερο τρόπο μεταξύ άλλων και αρκετές αντιθέσεις στη ζωή της μεγαλούπολης του Τόκιο, τις ανθρώπινες σχέσεις αλλά και την καθημερινότητα.
Ενδιαφέρουσα σημείωση:
Το 2018, το The Nippon Foundation εγκαινίασε το έργο The Tokyo Toilet (TTT) στο οποίο προσκάλεσε 16 αρχιτέκτονες και δημιουργούς - μεταξύ αυτών ονόματα διεθνούς εμβέλειας όπως οι Toyo Ito, Shigeru Ban και Kengo Kuma - να ανακαινίσουν δημόσιες τουαλέτες στη Shibuya του Τόκιο.
Το εγχείρημα ήθελε να είναι απάντηση στην κοινή αντίληψη ότι οι δημόσιες τουαλέτες είναι σκοτεινά, βρώμικα και επικίνδυνα μέρη αλλά και να ενθαρρύνει τη διαφορετικότητα, δίνοντας πρόσβαση σε όλους, ανεξαρτήτως φύλου, ηλικίας ή ειδικών αναγκών.
