France puts 14 on trial over the deadliest Channel migrant crossing disaster.
Fourteen people will stand trial in France over the deaths of 31 migrants in the deadliest recorded small-boat disaster in the English Channel, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The defendants are accused of links to people-smuggling networks involved in the November 2021 sinking, which left four others missing.

According to data from US border authorities, more than 37,000 Chinese nationals were arrested on the US-Mexico border in 2023 — 10 times more than the previous year.
Only one Chinese boat made it to Australia this year, occupants detained in Nauru.

If #PeopleSmuggling, risk to life, funding for local resources, life boats etc. is the problem, surely the answer to the #SmallBoats #Migrant "Problem" is to setup a consulate in Calais. #Migrants can legally claim #Asylum or leave to enter the UK there without crossing The Channel. A caring country might even put up some basic shelter while their claim is assessed.
The thing is, these aren't the problems #Tories care about. Blaming #Immigration for their failures is what they care about.
