#Oxford has been ranked only the ninth best city for #cycling in the UK by American advocacy group #PeopleForBikes. Cambridge was in first place, followed by the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Newham, Waltham Forest, Southwark and Westminster, then Edinburgh. Oxford’s score of 79/100 was calculated from an automated Bicycle Network Analysis assessing routes to common destinations. reports the #Clarion.

"The small city of Hailey, Idaho, for instance, experienced a staggering single-year jump of 53 points, rising to a total score of 77 and technically outpacing the top-ranked large city on the list, thanks in large part to an effort to drop speed limits as low as 15 to 20 miles per hour on many of its streets.”

The #BikeLeague really should be partnering with #PeopleForBikes since PFB already has data on bike networks and level of stress. Instead, there’s a whole excel worksheet they want you to fill out about lane miles and bike lanes. WTF?
-
#PeopleForBikes has been updating their Bicycle Network Analysis site with new scores. #Provincetown gained 8 points & now scores 96 out of a possible 100 points. 🧵#BikeTooter https://bna.peopleforbikes.org/#/places/0022c341-2c9c-4456-b780-419ac6ec96c0/

Surprising how quickly you can get around town on the bike trail with no traffic, stop signs, or cars.
The 50-mile Dallas Loop trail aims to transform the city. It’s getting there 🚲 🏙️

In other news, #PeopleForBikes' (yo where's your mastodon account?) top 10 best new bike lanes is out for 2022, and NYC didn't make it in despite the law that requires 30 miles of new PBLs for the year. https://www.peopleforbikes.org/news/the-best-new-u.s.-bike-lanes
Two reasons for that: 1) DOT only built 18mi instead of 30, and 2) what we do build is garbage.
The 34th Ave #OpenStreet gets a shout-out though; that project is still amazing in spite of city leadership (thanks to volunteers).

I know the story of 2 projects in #PeopleForBikes "BEST of 2022". Both were built only after hard-won advocacy fights.
I wonder about genesis of others on the "Best" list#BetterNaito #PDX started as #BetterBlock student work at @TRECpdx Supported by a People Protected #Bike Lane demo by @bikeloudpdx
The #Seattle #GreenLake people path took combined #PeoplePower of #GLWstreets #AuroraReimagened + #SNGreenways
Grateful to #PBOT #SDOT for implementing!

IMPORTANT: “Where we couldn’t get a bike lane, I hoped this symbol would effectively convert the mixed-traffic lane into an adhoc bike lane when bicyclists were present.
I was wrong.
Simply put, sharrows don’t do what we hoped they would.”
