  1. Retirees in Europe: Which countries offer the highest pensions?

Whether you’re a diligent saver or haven’t yet thought about your pension, retirement is a hot topic in politics as populations age and state finances are stretched.

In Europe, pension income varies widely — but who is best off in their silver years?

  2. #WASPI fight is valid. Men born in the #50s & #60s didn't stop #work for #babies, they built #private & #StatePension. #Wives were still expected to be at #home a long time after the 1975 #SexDiscrimination Act. For #women, continuous or full-time #employment & #workpensions weren't as expected nowadays. #Women hadn't the same chance to #save for #retirement but their #pensionage is the same. Shouldn't their have been work & #saving #equity before the #age changed?

  3. @CrimethInc If large parts of the French population are on the verge of uprising because of the pension age to be raised from 62 to 64 (Germany: 65), imagine, how the French would react, if their government dared to prohibit abortion!

  4. Listening to Rest is Politics talking about ageing population. Apparently when the old age pension was introduced, there were 12 working people for every retired person, and now that figure is 2.5.

Controversial opinion: we should not be afraid of raising the statutory retirement age as life expectancy increases. In exchange, the state should commit to ensuring life expectancy is neither a postcode or demographic lottery.
