Sometimes I get on my apartment's intercom and announce the death of Dick Laurent to the probably-empty lobby with the mailboxes and many-button intercom panel.

Yes! The wave of peepholing was a huge & sudden change in the mid 1990s! Although both series fell during the period in which all voice mail went onto magnetic tapes in your home. It was a time of foment, I tell you.
