  2. @TheHeartoftheTARDIS Off course the oil infra is important. Without it how will #BigOil profit? Isn't #Iran the mother lode that has been denied to #US and #European companies?

2nd largest gas reserves in the world
3rd largest or 4th largest oil reserves in the world.

Since #PearlHarbour attack in Dec 1941 we have been living in a world which has fought over #Oil. This is just another conflict in a long list.

  3. Was supposed to watch it on the first Sunday of this month...

Better late than never, I guess.

AIUI, shortly before #PearlHarbour and the USA entering #WWII, the USA had "turned off" Japan's petroleum supply.

    Interesting.

One reason I've seen put forward for Japan attacking USA in #WWII was "The USA stopped oil supplies to Japan".

Which AIUI left Japan to either attack or roll back on industrialisation and empire building.

  6. @Vittoria

Seems so convinient for #Netanyahu that his tool for stopping the #TwoStateSolution , being #Hamas, a group with massive international funding, would be #MisjudgedAndUnderestimated by the #IDF.

I very much doubt that this #CompleteFailure wasn't deliberately orchestrated.

The only surprise to Netanyahu et al was the magnitude of the 07 October 2023 attack I think.

Oh damn, the leopards did eat lots of faces. Guess we'll have to do a genocide.

  7. Mistodon: Today is a day that will live in infamy: #PearlHarbour Day. 83 years ago today Hawaii was attacked by Japan, resulting in 2403 American casualties, rudely entering the USA into WWII. This #ANSIart memorial was drawn by AdeptApril for the occasion.

  8. Today I remember that because of the inexcusable act of a government thousands of miles away, good citizens were removed from their homes, their belongings and lands sold, they and their families packed into rail cars and shipped away to camps. Many did hard labour. All were deprived of dignity and freedom. Local politicians who championed it, benefited from it for decades.

    Germany?

No. Canada and the USA imposing Japanese Internment. After the war, many were forced to go to Japan, even if they were not born there or never wanted to return.

War is injustice, pain, racism, bigotry, and suffering. Always.

  13. #PearlHarborDay: In the early morning of Dec. 7, 1941, the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, was attacked by the Japanese. Here are some facts about the event:

👀 The #GOP has introduced a bill to #EXPELPalestinians from the #unitedstates. I cannot read such things without remembering what happened to my own #family after #PearlHarbour when we and 120,000 #JapaneseAmericans were #incarcerated in #prisoncamps for years, without #charge or #trial.

  15. after watching something decent (#ASmallLight) looked for something not so draining or deserving of attention;

so watched #MidnightMiracle an old Disney telemovie about Danish resistance in WWII - it was uplifting without being draining, though hardly an artistic masterpiece

one thing about streaming services is that, while the good shows are good, the bad shows are truly dreadful.
so … now ignoring #PearlHarbour a 2001 movie, and it reminds me of the sunday afternoons my family spent watching the gladiator movie after the wrestling in the 1960s - improvising commentary to hang shit on the show:

Some of the subscriber reviews of Pearl Harbour on IMDb are hilarious:

‘in 1941 it cost the empire of japan 147 thousand dollars to stage the three hour attack on pearl harbour. in 2001 michael bay spent 132 million dollars to film the event, and ran 4 minutes longer. even taking into account 60 years of inflation, the japanese did a better job with their budget…”

and this gem “japanese launch surprise attack on love triangle”
