  1. I don’t think I’ve ever spotted a peacock butterfly in our garden before, but they are very welcome!

(This was one of a pair who were fluttering about and sunbathing in our mostly wild flower patch)

  6. 🇫🇷 Un joli paon de jour qui prenait le soleil près des berges de la Semois à Chiny. J'ai vu d'autres papillon mais c'était le seul qui s'arrêtait parfois... assez longtemps pour que je puisse le photographier. 😉

🇬🇧 A pretty peacock sunbathing near the banks of the Semois in Chiny. I saw other butterflies but it was the only one that stopped sometimes... long enough for me to photograph it. 😉

  7. The #stingingnettle #Urtica #dioica is widespread in Eurasia and requires #nitrogenrich #soils. It is #habitat for numerous organisms, such as #caterpillars of the #peacockbutterfly. All parts are #edible and rich in #vitamins/#minerals, as well as pharma-effective. In their #review, F. Martz & S. Kankaanpää (2025) summarize knowledge about the #roots, their functioning and #biochemistry.

  12. I went for a walk yesterday in Zeeland and saw LOTS of caterpillars on the road at a certain point. Luckily there was little to no car traffic there. Most were black with spikes, those will become peacock butterflies (Aglais io, 🇳🇱 dagpauwoog). But I also saw a HUGE green one of the hawk-moth (Agrius convolvuli, 🇳🇱 windepijlstaart). Apparently those are rare in NL.

  13. Spent a couple of hours in a very sunny #ParcSlip #NatureReserve yesterday. Lots of #Birds singing loudly, including the pictured #Chiffchaff. Quite a few #Butterflies, including this #PeacockButterfly and a couple of relaxed #HighlandCows. Very peaceful ..... until the #Coots ..... pretty sure this one didn't want his photo taken 😏
