I don’t think I’ve ever spotted a peacock butterfly in our garden before, but they are very welcome!
(This was one of a pair who were fluttering about and sunbathing in our mostly wild flower patch)

🇬🇧 A pretty peacock sunbathing near the banks of the Semois in Chiny. I saw other butterflies but it was the only one that stopped sometimes... long enough for me to photograph it. 😉

The #stingingnettle #Urtica #dioica is widespread in Eurasia and requires #nitrogenrich #soils. It is #habitat for numerous organisms, such as #caterpillars of the #peacockbutterfly. All parts are #edible and rich in #vitamins/#minerals, as well as pharma-effective. In their #review, F. Martz & S. Kankaanpää (2025) summarize knowledge about the #roots, their functioning and #biochemistry.
