Congressman Scott Perry from Pennsylvania made last minute amendments to HR8595 that among other things cuts all funding to the US Peace Corps.
While I have mixed and complex views of the Peace Corps having actually served; I do not think under any circumstance that the program should be entirely defunded and gutted.
I was a Peace Corps volunteer. While I slowly lost contact with my fellow volunteers over the years I know many including myself continue to serve in some form of community work. It seems absolutely awful to think we can spend billions of dollars domestically and abroad on weapons, prisons, and war but can't fund basic diplomacy, skill sharing, and community building.
