  1. @mandrakeOPE @scott it has only just occurred to me to add #pdxmst as an alternative that’s less confusing.

So many of us who were early adopters of “thing formerly known as Twitter” and started using the hashtag. There was a fairly sizable community of users in the tech scene. It’s honestly second nature to add it wherever I talk about local weather.

  2. I think we’re getting a mix of snow and ice.

Folks who laugh at #Portland completely losing all coherence during a winter storm event fail to understand that it is rarely _just snow_. We get snow, ice, and often a little warmth to turn it to inches of solid ice. If it were snow alone it wouldn’t be as bad.

We also don’t have a large fleet of plows because it wouldn’t be financially sustainable to maintain vehicles that maybe will get used for one event a year. Combine that with a very hilly metro area and tons of trees and you get a #Snowpocolypse.

I grew up here and every once in a while a serious winter storm shut everything down for days on end. I can recall one winter as a kid where we were without power for over a week. It was wretched.

  3. On the other site, we talked about the weather with the hashtag #pdxtst, which stood for “PDX Twitter! Storm! Team!,” mocking how local news hypes up the possibility of snow. Do we rename that to #pdxmst now that folks are here? #pdx #weather

  4. On days like today I'm missing my #pdxtst (PDX Twitter Storm Team) coverage. Do we need a #pdxmst (PDX Mastadon Storm Team)??

  5. CW: #PDX Weather

Can't wait for a weather event so we can use #PDXMST doesn't really have the same ring as PDXTST but should get the job done.
