I’m troubleshooting a Chinese #MiniPC a friend got on Black Friday (8845HS).

It power throttles on games after a while, while all temps are below 70°C. It just gives up. Goes from 65W to 55W and the frame pacing goes to shit (pulsating fps).

I don’t want to tell him “Return it and buy a #MacMiniM4”. Any ideas how it can be fixed?

#RAM is
DDR3-1333 PC3-10600, 240p DIMM

I'm using roughly: RAM: 4289MiB / 7798MiB

Seems like that system shouldn't max out at 8GB RAM.

Maybe it does. Seems like it would be alright if it could handle 16GB RAM.

Flash the BIOS or something?

This other lenovo thing takes 16 GB, but it doesn't have the #HDMI out.

IS THIS an 8GB Stick that would fit in the K330B?

There's a rather deep rabbit hole one can go down when you get stoned and start checking out tech vids. I started out just checking back in to the PC space, CPU/GPU/PC reviews and such. Just catching up on stuff I've mostly ignored as a primarily Console based gamer (PC is for MMOs 😜 ). Now I'm watching people repair stuff, lot of GPU/PCB repair channels on YT. Watching people do that fiddly work is engrossing. #PC #PCRepair #Tech #StonerThoughts

Used to be a PC tech years and years ago. I just dropped off a laptop for warranty repair and I did all the things I wish my customers would have done.

Formatted the computer.
Made an admin account with an easy password.

Set a typed up list of issues as the wallpaper.

Used painters tape to write my info and put it on the laptop.

Feels good to be a good customer.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overheated and cooked itself, and was replaced by its owner who was going to bin it. I bought it as scrap, dismantled it, cleaned it all up with isopropyl alcohol, replaced the thermal pads with Grizzly thermal pads, the thermal paste with Arctic MX-6, carefully put it all back together and she works like a dream!

The good news was that I hadn't set it up to use ntpd. Checking, it turned out that ntp.conf was configured with NTP servers that no longer exist, anyway.

The bad news was I hadn't actually configured it with anything else. So I had to quickly install Bernstein clockspeed, and after about 5 spaced apart rounds of sntpclock $IPADDRS|sudo clockadd it was back in synch after I had got the time roughly right by hand in SETUP.

Finally managed to get a replacement keyboard for my older Sony VAIO laptop. I had spilt water on it many many years ago, and despite a successful return-to-function, many keys stopped working. No longer!

I LOVE this laptop as a "old-school" workhorse, given it has FireWire, eSATA, and Memory Stick Duo ports. Stable, fast enough, and 8GB of RAM+SSD!
