  1. The screenshot is actually a different distro, not PClinuxOS, but starts with the same name.

Turns out 'PClinuxOS Debian' is a modification of Devuan with the PC Linux OS tools.

  5. This distro is a bit of a surprise.

I am not sure what exactly makes it PClinuxOS, if the base is Debian. It does have the extra software tools that usually come with PClinuxOS.

It has a recent 7.0.* Linux kernel. Has xLibre installed by default.

PClinuxOS is a rolling release, but the repositories for this appear to be Debian Trixie... so is this not a rolling release Linux?

SysV init version: 3.14 - so no SystemD

Would be great to chat with someone who knows more about this Distribution.

  7. Hey, I found a Linux curiosity:

    PClinuxOS, Debian edition

    https://www.pclosdebian.com/home

I hadn't heard of this before. Anybody familiar with it? Looks like it does PCLinuxOS type things such as systemD-free and rolling release, but with a Debian base.

I downloaded the Cinnamon ISO and will test.

    They have forums:

  13. Dammit

For some reason the kernel isn't seeing my laptop speakers as an output device. Morad, I'm pretty sure I heard the startup jingle back when I first installed Linux on this laptop....

Thinking I'll stop using #Magiea and try #OpenMandriva or #PClinuxOS something with a newer kernel (I'm on 6.4) and see if the problem magically goes away.

(I also want something that doesn't need me to compile Signal myself ideally, and has Wayland for desktop scaling when I use the laptop to run my TV)

  37. @dangillmor it's a pity there are not open source operating system "distributions" that vet "package maintainer" individuals for all of the thousands of software application packages that most people might actually need, who then function as gatekeepers to weed out bad software releases, not to mention imposters, from infiltrating a distribution system of cryptographically signed and QA'd software, that is verified to comply with "distribution" policies.
