CW: Human+AI
Have you ever hit the power button and felt that instant wave of panic when nothing happens? It is terrifying when your computer won't turn on, but it is often just a loose cable or a simple power reset. Try holding the power button for 30 seconds while unplugged before you worry. More here: https://gwizit.com/go/6ApJaxb This was written by a human but with AI assistance.

Ayo Is it possible at all to boot into a Linux installer from within Windows? Because I cannot get this piece of shit to USB boot. There is a floppy drive, there is a DVD drive, but I don't have a floppy and I don't have a DVD. I also can't mount the SSD somewhere else and just install an OS onto it.
p5ql/equ asus mobo, core2duo + ddr2 (wow!) 6gig of it!
i really need to get linux on this instead or windows 10.

Hey computer nerds! I need advice.
I'm still running Windows 10. What do!?
Should I pay MS $60 to kick this can down the road and get security updates for the next year?
Should I give in and "upgrade" to 11?
How good is a tool like #flyoobe to de-bullshit 11? Any other suggestions to cleanup 11?
I've really thought about it and I don't think Linux is for me.
Does anybody have any different thoughts? Any ways to make 11 act and function more like 10?

Still on hardware misadventures... tech savvy people from Fedi, I need your help:
I'm thinking of getting a cheap QLC SSD (probably a WD SN350 or kingston nv2) to use exclusively as swap and scratch disk. The idea is that it'll hardly ever fill over 50%, so the performance hit of it being a QLC shouldn't be so bad, it'll just naturally stink. This way a more expensive primary SSD will be spared from death by overwriting.
Is this a clever or foolish idea?
:boost: ❤️

Het is iets met de drivers of de geluidskaart gok ik, maar ik gebruik al sinds 2001 geen #Windows meer. Dus kan ik op afstand haar niet van dienst zijn. Dus Mastodon; doe je werk!

Edit: well, it appears to be the PSU, or something affecting the PSU, that causes it to well, not boot... Have asked dad about a repair shop in his neighborhood, maybe they can help, as my confidence and knowledge aren't secure enough to tinker with the power source myself. Fankoos for all that tried to help! :neomouse_hug_blahaj_heart:
😭 Noooooo!!! 😭
I just wanted to boot my PC. It makes it's usual click sound, the indicator light turns on, and then... It clicks again and nothing happens. And it clicks again, and again... And that's the only thing it does. I cut the power off the pc and the little indicator light stayed on for several more seconds.... 😭
Soooooo I have noooo idea what is wrong with my pc, except that I kinda still need it... It's an old one, ten years old running Win10. It was a decent one back in the day, and it was still good enough for my needs...
Does anyone have any idea what may he wrong with it??
I'm sorry I can't give more details of the error as this is basically all the pc does. It clicks as it usually did when turning on, then for a second or so, nothing happens, while the indicator light is on, and then it clicks again and the light slowly goes off again. And even without power the light stays on for a bit... Normally, after the first click, it starts up the fans and it checks the second drive (the first one ie an ssd one).
If anyone needs more stats on the pc, I could look them up. It didn't install any updates before I shut it down last. As said it's ten years old... So it's an older one. It's been moved several times, but last time I used it, it all worked well. And there were no issues at all.
Ugh... Everything seems to be breaking down at the moment.... I can't afford a new PC, but if it could be a need of an "simple replacemnt" of one of the parts, I could ask dad for some help with the funds.
I guess it heard me say that if I'd had the funds, I would not mind a new one! 😂 But that didn't mean it had to die on me now...
Fankoos in advance for any help/tips!
Ugh... 😢

I play (a lot) of WoW and like to record my dungeon runs. I would like to include game audio, BUT, not the discord audio. How can I say “include this audio” but “not this audio” in the recording but still hear BOTH through my headset? I’m on windows btw #PCHelp #AudioHelp #SoftwareSolutions #WoW

reaching out here just incase anyone who knows hardware better than i can help:
windows had a bsod (CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT) and i assumed it was just windows being windows so i just ignored it. eventually it blue screened several more times and i tried to fix it assuming it was a software issue (booting via wbm instead of grub, updating windows, etc) and that seemed to fix it until it blue screened, rebooted... blue screen immediately. now it won't even POST. the power led just keeps fucking blinking and i feel like ive tried everything: using only one stick of ram, reseating the ram, reseating the cpu, one stick of ram no discreet gpu. only 1 ssd, only 1 hard drive, no drives, reconnecting all of the power cables from the psu end and the mobo end.

How badly did I fuck up my pc? Was looking to install a liquid cooler, but as I removed the cpu fan/heatsink, the CPU came along with it. Pins still looked straight, so I re-set it, added the brackets for the liquid cooler & fresh thermal paste, attached the pump, radiator, and fans, and connected all the cables appropriately. When I connect power and turn on the psu, the motherboard and GPU light up, but nothing happens when I hit the power button. #pchelp

Need help deciding on specs for a new desktop PC.
Been a very long time since I bought one so I'm hoping someone can recommend what I need.Windows OS, and I'm using Adobe Indesign and Photoshop. (Can't change that for boring non negotiable reasons)
- what processor ?
- what size SSD for operating system ? (I've got a hard drive for storage already)
- amount of RAM ? -
