  1. Made a new video: Setting up an NEC PC-9821 Ce2 with a fresh hard disk and DOS 5.0A-H (using a very large IDE hard drive). Also CD-ROM drive setup.

As usual correct me if I'm utterly wrong about something.

  6. > tries to play "rusty" on Epson PC-486GR (PC-98 clone)
    > black screen during opening
    > *I remove my MIDI board (MPU-401 compatible; Roland MPU-PC98II)
    > …now it works
Well, at least unlike IBM clones these boards can be installed and removed from the back without opening the case. (shrug)
Am curious what IRQ or address conflicts I might have, since literally every other game seems to deal with it fine (shrug again). #pc9801 #pc98 #c_lab #rusty

  11. hrmmmm, i think maybe i did something to my pc98. it seems to be playing touhou 5 much faster than normal today... but i thought i clocked the GDC down. and maybe did some BIOS-level CPU modifier thing for 8 vs. 10 MHz system clock? Probably dropping it to 8? … Trying to figure out how slowing the GDC and maybe CPU multiplier down would make the game run faster. I can sort of imagine it, but it's wild to me that i'm just now realizing this after over a year of owning this thing. Could also just be that i'm sleepy right now and therefore playing much, much worse than usual, but it genuinely seems faster. IDK how it measures "slowdown."

it seems to be playing touhou 5 much faster than normal today... but i thought i clocked the GDC down. and maybe did some BIOS-level CPU modifier thing for 5 vs. 8 MHz base clock? Probably dropping it to 5? … Trying to figure out how slowing the GDC and maybe CPU multiplier down would make the game run faster. I can sort of imagine it, but it's wild to me that i'm just now realizing this after over a year of owning this thing. IDK how it measures that, to be fair, though.

  16. New blog post! It's the conclusion of the PC-9801RA2 article series as I get a mouse to work. If you're one of the many readers who likes to watch me suffer, this one has what you want. #retrocomputing #pc98 #pc9801 #artdink #arduino https://www.leadedsolder.com/2023/09/12/tokio-pc9801ra2-part-3-mouse-adapter.html
  17. In Tokio for the PC-98, where you play a politician working as mayor on a space station, #Artdink leaned so far into the parody that they ended up implementing fully functional futuristic fax machines and VCRs. #pc98 #pc9801 #pc9821 #retrocomputing #retrogaming
  18. Back into some PC98 studies, with a pinup of Sid (been a while since i've drawn her)!

  19. There's a floppy drive fracas in this week's edition of "Travelling to Tokio," where I try to convince a sickly PC-98 to play games again.

    These NEC FD1155s aren't going down without a fight. #retrocomputing #pc98 #pc9801 #artdink https://www.leadedsolder.com/2023/01/10/tokio-pc9801ra2-part-2-floppy-fighting.html
  20. I wanted to buy another PC-98 to play Artdink's Tokio, but I got more than I bargained for. What did I get? A whole series of articles – this one's about making a modified power supply for Western use.
