"A View to a Kill" is a song by the English #popRock band #DuranDuran, released on 6 May 1985. Written and recorded as the theme for the James Bond film of the same name and included on its accompanying soundtrack album, it became one of the band's biggest hits. It is the only #JamesBondThemeSong to have reached number one on the US #Billboard Hot 100; it also made it to number two for three weeks on the #UKSinglesChart while stuck behind #PaulHardcastle's "19".

"19" - Paul Hardcastle
A breathtaking collage of clips, sound effects, and a reverberating keyboard riff. It's all beaten into shape by the video, which features cutting-edge effects: a computer-animated flag, from which a star morphs into the face of a soldier.
One can argue with the lyric (the average soldier's age was about 25, thus undercutting the whole point of the song), but this is *so* different from anything we've seen in years.

"Don't waste my time" - Paul Hardcastle (and Carol Kenyon)
She was the session vocalist on Heaven 17's "Temptation" a few years back, and adds some very memorable lines to this jazz-funk song. Skips joyfully through her rejection of all things blokeish, and hastens the day when Carol's moved on with her life.
While in the studio, producer Michael Hurll asked Paul (with the keytar) to write a new theme for #TOTP. And could he have "The wizard" next week purlease? Paul obliged.

"Midas touch" - Midnight Star
Might be a certain theme to this song. Can you tell what it is?
"The wizard" - Paul Hardcastle
TOTP producer Michael Hurll wanted something "quick and dirty", so Paul wrote this song in two days flat.
Paul kept the royalties, and gets a few quid every time they introduce a #TOTP from this era.
He's also written a new theme for The Late Late Breakfast Show, they'll use that for the next few years.

The lengths I go to, for gags for this thing is immense. Do you know how many hrs I spend thinking about them... just for 2 people to like it.
Also... some of you just won't get how good & subtle this gag is unless you went to school in the early 80's and understand 80's pop culture.

CW: 1986 - "The wizard (jazz mix)" by Paul Hardcastle
In February 1986, Michael Hurll asked Paul Hardcastle for a shiny new title theme for Top of the Pops. "The wizard" was written in a couple of days; the fizzy-bangy-twiddly tune was used for the next 5½ years.
When Paul had had a bit longer to think about the tune, he came up with this mellow mix. It featured on the 12-inch single.

Another finished tune this week, chill retro-jazz-funk– very summery, I think. A bit of analog, a bit of digital, inspiration from #PaulHardcastle, #RahBand, #Sade, #GeorgeDuke and #AnitaBaker, and a Splice vocal line that may or may not have been used a thousand times over on top, is what this is.
