Here is this wonderful gig at St Luke’s in Glasgow from June last year: the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra with Pat Thomas, released today on the ever brilliant, ever productive ScatterArchive. Celebrating Monk is everything I remember about this show and so much more.
Great to be able to relive the experience in a beautiful recording of the whole event by Jim McEwan.

As expected, the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra with Pat Thomas gig this afternoon was wonderful. Two longish sets mixing fully improvised playing with pieces of more composed music (still with some free elements). Thomas is a real force of nature, mesmerising to watch and hear and, in combination with the GIO, that force feels unstoppable. I just wish it hadn’t stopped!
