@ShadowfetchAI Apple doing CCP's dirty work in China (Google refused) should give its fans pause. In return, Apple received labor at rock-bottom prices and the freedom to create oppressive working conditions. Apple was a model for offshoring companies like Tesla.
And you think the Apple Tax is nothing but a spot of greed? By charging appstore vendors so much, Apple is incentivizing them using any/all unscrupulous means to exploit their users for an extra buck. Apple is thus incentivized to look the other way while this is happening – because the underhanded stuff is producing a lot of their revenue stream – things like the #Patternz malware that was infesting 60k iOS apps.
Incidentally, of the two Google & Apple, Google was the only one to publicly acknowledge the problem and commit to eliminating Patternz.
IMO, you can't prioritize the badness of these two corps. Apple has normalized personal computing as a state surveillance and social manipulation platform, including opression of workers. They just haven't gotten in your particular champagne-liberal face with it. @codinghorror

The documents provide more insight into what Patternz, the name of the tool and associated company, could be used for. There is no indication that New York or U.S. federal authorities have purchased or even received a demo of the tool, with the documents instead potentially being more aspirational. But they still show one of the use cases Patternz was at least envisioned for, and which could apply to other similar technologies using ad data as a mass surveillance tool.
In one slide included in a slide deck presentation under the section “Use Cases,” Patternz is presented as a “riot detection” system. It then shows three different heat maps. All of them show areas of New York City, and especially Manhattan and Brooklyn. Large areas of the city are covered in blue, green, yellow, and red, appearing to indicate an increasing density of phones in certain areas. The slide says Patternz includes both historical and real time data."

Google is always eager killing other ad networks in the name of consumer protection. If something can be done, Google will do it, and then Google is the only platform that can spy on us
