Die umstrittene massenhafte Überwachung privater Nachrichten in Europa endet. Nachdem das Europäische Parlament bereits am 13. März der anlasslosen und flächendeckenden Chatkontrolle durch US-Konzerne eine Absage erteilt hatte, versuchten konservative Kräfte gestern in einem demokratisch hochbedenklichen Manöver, eine Wiederholungsabstimmung zu erzwingen, um das Gesetz doch noch zu verlängern. In einem wahren Abstimmungskrimi hat das Parlament dem Überwachungswahn heute jedoch endgültig den Stecker gezogen: Mit einer hauchdünnen Mehrheit von nur einer einzigen Stimme lehnte das Parlament zunächst die automatisierte Bewertung unbekannter privater Fotos und Chattexte als „verdächtig“ oder „unverdächtig“ ab. In der anschließenden Schlussabstimmung verfehlte der so geänderte Rest-Vorschlag dann klar die nötige Mehrheit

Perso, je n’ai pas trop d’avis. J’ignore s’il faut vraiment s’alarmer, comme Patrick Breyer le suggère. C’est vrai que « ça ressemble » à une tentative pour réintroduire, dans des termes vagues, imprécis, le contrôle dont on vient tout juste d’abandonner le projet. Je ne ne sais pas ce qu’il en restera. L’étape du jour, selon ce que je comprends, c’est un nouveau brouillon qui doit être discuté…

Pour Patrick Breyer (Parti Pirate), le projet qui va être discuté à Bruxelles c’est encore du Chat Control.

Officiellement, les obligations explicites de scan ont été supprimées. Mais l'article 4 du projet révisé obligerait les fournisseurs de services de mail, de chat et de messagerie instantanée à prendre « toutes les mesures appropriées pour réduire les risques ». Cela signifie qu'ils pourraient être contraints de scanner tous les messages privés, y compris sur les services chiffrés de bout en bout.
