  1. #PatrickBoyle , a stand-up comedian with a mediocum of economic expertise, narrates a highly amusing episode, pouring fire on the nuclear meltdown of #situationalawareness hedge fund.

    A hedge fund of $35 billion dollars run by a kid with a funny laugh, and apparently little else but his wide-eyed belief in #Ai stocks.

    Watch for funsies;

  2. I still enjoy the dry wit humour of #PatrickBoyle.

    It's a channel about rap music but for reason noone can explain he studied finance, worked in finance and speaks on finance in all of his videos. But be assured it's just an elaborate side topic and usually he only talks about rap music.
    and sometimes he even blinks

  9. Patrick Boyle on Finance
    I think I understand what 'acerbic' means and I think it applies to this podcast. Fantastic, cynical (realistic?) takes on finance themes narrated with an Irish accent.
    Latest is about how messed up society is gonna be due to the Iran thing and how markets are not reflecting this.

    Obviously for a ridiculously overvalued price.

    This is a great explainer for how that gaping-void-made-flesh #ElonMusk was predictably useless.

  27. "The takeaway from this video is that it's an oversimplification to say that all regulation is good, or that all regulation is bad. Regulations are usually put in place for food reasons. But over time it makes sense to revisit them, analyse the outcomes, and see if the regulations are providing the benefits that were promised. And if they're causing any unforseen problems or costs".

  31. "DeepSeek used a 'mixture of experts' model. Which means rather than training one large model, they trained tens of smaller ones, on more specific data, that then gets switched on and off as needed."

    #PatrickBoyle, 2025

    creators.spotify.com/pod/show/

    To the degree that #MOLE Training will be a useful technology in the long term, I think this is how it will be used. Models that are intensively trained on narrow areas to create niche expert systems. The AGI talk is pure sales hype.

  33. "Instead, many countries have adopted lopsided industrial policies that allow them to export much more than they import. Their objective is not to raise the standard of living of their citizens. But to accumulate power and wealth by buying assets abroad."

    #PatrickBoyle, 2025

    creators.spotify.com/pod/show/

    This was a key part of Reaganomics. Huge chunks of the NZ economy ended up owned by US capitalists by the end of the 1990s. Now China is following a similar playbook.

  35. "North American car manufacturing is highly integrated between the three countries [US, Canada, Mexico], with parts going back and forth across borders as many as seven times during the production process."

    #PatrickBoyle, 2025

    creators.spotify.com/pod/show/

    Why all this back and forth? Surely it would use less resources to produce a complete vehicle at one manufacturing complex? Even if you're importing specialist parts, they only need to cross the border once.

  36. "Mexico provides almost 2/3 of all US fruit and vegetable imports. So food prices would be hit right away"

    #PatrickBoyle, 2025

    creators.spotify.com/pod/show/

    If we're talking about fresh fruit and veges ... why is the US importing these at all? Especially in enough volume for trade issues to affect prices.

    Surely you get fresher produce when it's grown as close as possible to where it's eaten? Not to mention healthier local economies, more resilient supply chains, and lower carbon emissions.

  37. Intriguing. Patrick Boyle did a good analysis of tariffs late last year, looking at both potential pros and cons, and busting a few common myths;

    creators.spotify.com/pod/show/

    Yet here, only 2 months later, he's back to singing from the neoclassical songbook;

    creators.spotify.com/pod/show/

    Eg assuming that tariffs will raise prices. Which is not a given, as he said in the episode at the first link.
