  2. This Channel 4 continuity card has haunted me since 1983. I always thought it looked like something Terry Gilliam might have come up with. I half expected McGoohan's eyes to start darting about, his jaw to drop open, and something Monty Python-ish to ensue. Perhaps McGoohan's head would bounce off his shoulders and chase Rover around the screen!

Quite gave me the heebie-jeebies, it did. Still does, in fact.

  5. Back in 1982, I'd just returned from a trip to Portmeirion when I switched on the television and saw an advert for ITV's Best of British season featuring a snippet from the opening titles of The Prisoner.

My first thought was, "What a coincidence!" My second was, "Please don't let it be The Girl Who Was Death."

So, naturally, they showed The Girl Who Was Death. Quite possibly the least representative episode they could have chosen. 44 years ago today.

(ARTE, Wh.)

  15. The Walking Dead : The Ones who live

The Ones who live has immediately gone up as one of my favourite series in The Walking Dead universe. Top spot of course is Negan's introduction. Holy Christ that was intense. But I gotta say that after finishing the six-episode series of this Rick and Michone spin-off, it has catapulted up to near the top. And it was a single moment that solidified it for me. Now I always enjoyed watching Rick grow increasingly capable and deadly as the series moved forward. I was lucky to start […]

  17. Exploring the couple Patrick McGoohan films on Criterion, and found All Night Long. Othello, but in the 60s London Jazz scene.

It includes performances by actual jazz greats, like Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Tubby Hayes, and Johnny Dankworth.

    Well worth a watch.

I swear the thunder sound effect is the same as the Prisoner.

  18. Watching the first of #PatrickMcGoohan ‘s guest appearances on #Columbo at @Illuminatus ‘s recommendation.

Of course being a guest star usually means murderer.

By Dawn’s Early Light, military academy commandant doesn’t want the academy to go co-ed. Conveniently, the founder dies in a cannon misfire during the Founder’s Day ceremony.

I’m still amazed Columbo had movie length episodes and was on for so long. They don’t make them like that anymore.

  19. I found that #DangerMan / #SecretAgentMan is on Prime (as is #ThePrisoner and #TheSaint ). I love the Prisoner, but I’d never seen #PatrickMcGoohan in Danger Man before.

It’s a very fast paced show. At ~23 minutes, they cram in a plot that really deserves a 50 minute episode (like the Saint), so there’s no wasted moments. Even the dialog is rapid fire.

I appreciate McGoohan’s skill at taking on different personas and accents.

I can see why they wanted him for #JamesBond .

  20. I need to rewatch The Prisoner. That was such a bloody great show.
