    By Patricia Karvelas

Helen Haines has fought for integrity in politics. She deserved to be treated with respect and integrity too. Instead, she is apparently Australia's first victim of a targeted attack on a politician on this scale.

    By Patricia Karvelas

Albanese promised to be "the adult in the room" and govern from the centre. But is that still the political mood as we enter the last part of 2026?

  5. Shoebridge to woo same angry voters as One Nation — but from the left
    By Patricia Karvelas

David Shoebridge wants to hold Labor's feet to the fire. He will be a thorn in Labor's side rather than a deal maker.

  6. Labor's dilemma is that Australia needs two things voters fear
    By Patricia Karvelas

The Intergenerational Report released today suggests population growth is slowing. But migrants are crucial for the economy and along with data centres have become the most dangerous political issues confronting the government.

  9. The AI sleeper issue that could sway Australian elections
    By Patricia Karvelas

AI's impact on politics is poised to go from academic to reality due to undecided voters, seats with tiny margins and growing evidence that it can persuade people.

  10. 'Brokeback' Barnaby knows One Nation needs the pink vote
    By Patricia Karvelas

If One Nation genuinely wants to replace the Liberals and Nationals as the dominant force on the right, it needs a broader voter base. That is where the gay vote comes in.

  16. Saw #RichardMarles #Australia's Defence Minister, on ABC TV with #PatriciaKarvelas.

He invoked the #InternationalRulesBasedOrder on the defence of #Ukraine and the Asia-Pacific region.

This #Labor politician pretended #Israel's ongoing #WarCrimes, #CrimesAgainstHumanity and #Genocide in #Gaza has nothing to do with that rules based order.
By doing so he weakens the international rules-based order - it is NOT for #SelectiveApplication.
He and the #Albanese government are #GenocideComplicit.

  17. @abcfeeds I think #PatriciaKarvelas is forgetting history, not long ago history, yesterdays even. #howard spent most of his term as #primeminister attacking multiculturalism. Every #lnp prime minister since him has made a point of attacking different ethnic groups. Muslims have been constantly publicly humiliated since 911. Every person over 60, who reads News Limited The Australian, will tell you #woke has gone mad and #diversity should be rejected. We have had over 20 years of governments watering down peoples rights to live in harmony. Even now with what is going on in the middle east the #coalition constantly says we shouldn’t be taking refugees and they must be all terrorists. We have a #USA who is rounding up people from all types of backgrounds, locking them up and deporting them. Multiculturalism is meant to be a dirty word.

This constant mental attack is now being twisted and turned to protect a single ethnic group being attacked by random individuals working alone or in small groups. The disquiet across Australia is suffocating. Normally governments would introduce education programs to positively change community mentality but we have such poisonous major parties the stick is the only option in their world. Watch to see knee jerk laws being introduced to take away more of our rights and achieving nothing.

  18. Young men are gravitating to Dutton. Will this win him the election?
    By Patricia Karvelas

Peter Dutton is clearly connecting with disenfranchised young men better than progressives and Anthony Albanese are. The risk is how that translates across the electorate.

  19. Dutton is already testing Trump's campaign slogans. Will they work in Australia?
    By Patricia Karvelas

The success of Donald Trump's election campaign in the US has Australia's leaders watching closely but there are risks to importing debates from other countries.

  23. A second Trump presidency would be a wild ride for Australia and the stakes could not be higher

Donald Trump's predictable but uncomfortable rant against the judicial system and the rule of law is a challenge for Australia as Anthony Albanese makes a wild ride between upholding the bedrock of liberal democracy and keeping a potential future US president on side.
