—Hola, mi amor. Estoy recagado de hambre.
No supe qué contestarle.
—Me llamo Denis. —Voz de piba.
—Horacio.
—Te iba a pedir algo para comer, gracias —y guarda el dinero.
Entrechocamos puños. Me obsequia una sonrisa y se va.
Pasa por delante del vehículo para charlar con unos albañiles en una obra.
Lo vi levantar una piedrita del suelo. Ese gesto. Ahí percibí su flacura imposible. No llevaba medias y apoyaba sus talones sobre en los bordes aplastados de sus zapatillas.
Me lo crucé de nuevo por la tarde, en otro semáforo. «Me hice un rodete, ¿Ves?»
Anoche, tarde, alguien me rogó que le comprara unas bolsas de residuo. «Son las primeras que vendo, gracias». Y se arrodilló. Me impactó sobremanera.
Otro día, una escena parecida. El pibe musitaba, un trabajo prometido y que no pudo ser. Vivía en la calle, la intemperie en su voz.
O el que dormía en una esquina, tantos los excluidos. Y varios votaron a su verdugo.
«Siento que estoy en un desierto con las manos extendidas y tú estás lloviendo sobre mí». Carol, de Patricia Highsmith. Hay novelas que llegan cuando deben.
Otra frase de Carol: «Siento que estoy enamorada de ti, había escrito, y debería ser primavera. Quiero que el sol caiga sobre mi cabeza como coros musicales. Imagino un sol como Beethoven, un viento como Debussy, y cantos de pájaros como Stravinski. Pero el ritmo es totalmente mío».
Escribir, esa maraña a dilucidar, como mis borradores.
Será cuestión de lanzarse, arremeter con la maleza.

Watched the first two episodes of RIPLEY last night and it's got me interested. Second episode is definitely getting into the groove. My only quibble is that Andrew Scott is really too old for the role. But his "anti-charisma" is a really intriguing choice for the character and I'm into it.

#PatriciaHighsmith died #OTD in 1995. The #AmericanAuthor was known for her thrillers, many of which were adapted for the screen, incl her 1952 novel The Price of Salt, made into the 2015 film #Carol: famously a #LesbianNovel with a happy ending!

Strangers on a Train (1950) was Patricia Highsmith’s first novel. I love Hitchcock’s 1951 film (which departs radically from the book) but I very much disliked Highsmith’s novel. I'm not a fan of agonisingly psychological crime novels. YMMV.

"Ripley Under Water" ist langsam mit wenig Handlung. Tom klammert sich an seinen Ritualen fest, um nicht unterzugehen und scheut den Mord. Mir reicht das nicht. Ich hätte nichts verpasst, wenn ich den fünften Tom Ripley von #PatriciaHighsmith nicht gelesen hätte. 🤷♂️
