  4. One of the planters I've brought in for the winter. At the beginning of spring, there was a tub of previously-used potting soil that had a couple sprouts boosting out early. We enjoyed some early spinach, and then I let it go to seed, to see if I could grow another round. These were planted late summer and have been going since.

  9. This sunflower is a demonstration of my efforts to learn how to grow stuff. Originally I thought this was a zucchini plant. 🤷🏼‍♀️ #patiogarden #saturdaysunflower #mellowyellow

  10. Plants have been a comfort amid chaos over the last year. From starting seeds under a grow bulb, to growing berries and vegetables in containers, to overwintering a few indoors... #patiogarden #gardenphotography #gardening #photography #urbangardening #photo #garden #growityourself #backyardharvest

Years ago, the first hab I grew in the patio garden was red but ever since they have only been orange. I bought some seeds in a bundle this year and yay! there was a red one.

    Green Onions

I knew I could extend the useful life of store bought green onions by keeping them in a glass with water. I tried this suggested method for the first time this year. Poke them into potting soil and they will take off.

Harvested this little cutie today because it's starting to wrinkle. Never got any bigger than this, but at least we got a squash this year ❤️There's a couple more blossoms that could become squash but I really think it's starting to be too late in the season for them. We'll see!
In surprising news: the tomato plant is actually producing tomatoes!! I counted a total of 4 in various states of development. Had given up hope of getting any tomatoes this year, but looks like I was wrong! One is already pretty long and beginning to turn colors 🥰 Good day in the garden, I think.

Yesterday, while waiting for the storms to calm down, I spent some time cleaning up the squash plants. Just cutting off dead leaves mostly. While doing so I found 3 more producing flowers. One I hand pollinated using a Q-tip and took pollen from the three other pollinating flowers that were open. Maybe that'll help?
A week ago we had two producing flowers open. Unfortunately, it looks like we lost one of the potential squashes, probably because of the heat. 😫The other one is hanging on still. It's changing colors but not really growing, so we'll see what happens.
