  1. Another thought about #Nintendo's #PatentInfringement #lawsuit for #Pokemon against #PalWorld, it really feels like it flies in the face of one of the main reasons they give for #copyright and #patent #law: #innovation.

    What's happening here is that, for several decades now, Nintendo has sat on what was once a somewhat innovative take on the existing #MonsterCollecting genre, but wasn't really making the interesting changes that people wanted to see, at least not at the rate they were being asked to.

    PalWorld comes along with a similar take on the genre, clearly intending to at least have a similar look, and does some really interesting innovations, effectively combining the modern #SurvivalGame / #BaseBuilding genres with classic Monster Collecting mechanics, creating an entirely new, interesting, and apparently highly demanded game.

    If this is found to be patent infringement, it is effectively stifling innovation, the opposite of what patent proponents claim they do.
