I recently discovered a "War on Raw Milk" article from 1944!
My Grandfather directed a field hospital in #England during #WWII. He kept a scrapbook and inside was this gem...
"An Opponent of Pasteurisation", Lawrence P. Garrod, Country Life, September 29, 1944
The arguments made are so similar to those of #RFK Jr it is remarkable. No change over time. The same old lies!
The risks of drinking raw milk are minimal. #Lie
The benefits of raw milk outweigh the risks. #Lie
Infections are good for children overall, even if some die. #Lie
The public health establishment is preventing people from being healthy. #Lie

My Grandfather was a Physician and ran a field hospital in #England during #WWII .
He kept a scrapbook including entire magazines from that time. In one of them we found the following gem...
"An Opponent of #Pasteurization", Lawrence P. Garrod, Country Life, September 29, 1944
My synopsis...
Commenting on "The Case Against #Pasteurisation" (note different spelling) by John P. Bibby, Dr. Garrod knocks down all the #deceptions, #obfuscations, & #misdirections in the subject text. I counted at least seven:
Obfuscating tables and figures
Unsound use of statistics
Assuming correlation implies causation
Cherry-picked data
Non-standardised data
False equivalence (infection vs vaccination)
Ignoring evidenceThe arguments presented by Mr. Bibby are surprisingly similar to #RFKJr 's eighty years later:
The risks of drinking #rawmilk are minimal.
The benefits of raw milk outweigh the risks.
#Infections are good for children overall, even if some die.

#USDA Confirms Highly Pathogenic #AvianInfluenza in #DairyHerd in #Nebraska
Milk Supply Safe; Considered Low Risk to Human Health and Safety
Contact: [email protected]
WASHINGTON, D.C., September 15, 2025— "Today, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) confirmed a detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (#HPAI) #H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b, genotype B3.13 in a dairy cattle herd in Nebraska. This confirmation was a result of State tracing and investigation, following an initial detection from pre-movement surveillance milk samples required under USDA’s April 2024 Federal Order.
This marks the first known case of HPAI in cattle in Nebraska. While dairy cattle in a total of 17 states have been infected since the start of the outbreak in March 2024, APHIS has seen cases in only a small number of states this year. APHIS is working closely with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture to conduct additional on-farm investigation, testing, and gathering of additional epidemiological information to better understand this detection and limit further disease spread.
The detection does not change USDA’s HPAI eradication strategy. Biosecurity is still key to mitigate the risk of disease introduction or spread between premises; APHIS recommends enhanced #biosecurity measures for all dairy farms, particularly as we enter fall migratory bird season. Producers should immediately report any livestock with clinical signs, or any unusual sick or dead wildlife, to their state veterinarian.
There is no concern that this circumstance poses a risk to consumer health, or that it affects the safety of the commercial milk supply. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is confident that #pasteurization is effective at inactivating H5N1, and that the commercial, pasteurized milk supply is safe. Dairies are required to send only milk from healthy animals into processing for human consumption; milk from impacted animals is being diverted from the commercial milk tank or destroyed so that it does not enter the human food supply.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), H5N1 viruses circulating in birds and U.S. dairy cattle are believed to pose a low risk to the general public in the United States. However, people who have job-related or recreational exposures to infected birds or mammals are at higher risk of infection and should take appropriate precautions outlined in CDC guidance."

Dear fellow US Americans - as our food supply is becoming increasingly unsafe, start learning about pasteurization if you weren't already familiar with it. Also fermentation/pickling.
Talk to your neighbors if you know they already do these things.

A sequel to the Raw and the Cooked: We're Cooked
"#Pasteurization began in the United States in the 1890s after the discovery of germ theory to control the hazards of highly contagious bacterial diseases which could be easily transmitted to humans through raw milk. It played an important role in decreasing infant mortality at the time. Once pasteurization became more common, infectious diseases with high infant mortality rates decreased by 50%."

Raw milk is a RISKY product.
#BirdFlu has now killed two cats in California.
There’s a reason for #pasteurization (1864). It’s reduced infant mortality by a factor of 30-60. Today, #rawMilk drinkers are 840 times more likely to get sick than pasteurized milk drinkers.
-
Apparently it needs saying again: don't drink raw milk.
"This review describes why pasteurization of milk was introduced more than 100 years ago, how #pasteurization helped to reduce the incidence of illnesses associated with #RawMilk consumption, and the prevalence of pathogens in raw milk. In some studies, up to a third of all raw milk samples contained #pathogens, even when sourced from clinically healthy animals or from milk that appeared to be of good quality."

The #Thermal #Stability of #Influenza Viruses in #Milk
Source: Viruses, https://www.mdpi.com/1999-4915/16/11/1766
Abstract
Highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) of the H5N1 subtype (clade 2.3.4.4b) have been detected in raw milk from infected cows. Several studies have examined the time and temperature parameters to ascertain whether influenza viruses in milk can be inactivated completely under commercial pasteurization conditions, yielding conflicting results. This study aimed to investigate whether milk could help protect influenza viruses from heat treatment. After heat treatment at 49 °C for one hour, the titer reduction of the influenza A/WSN/1933 (A/H1) virus in milk was approximately 1.6 log10TCID50/mL, which was significantly lower than that (3 log10TCID50/mL) observed in the Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) control media. The influenza D/bovine/CHN/JY3002/2022 (D/Yama2019) virus in milk retained a high residual infectivity (4.68 × 103 log10TCID50/mL) after treatment at 53 °C; however, the virus in DMEM completely lost its infectivity under the same conditions. Moreover, the influenza A/chicken/CHN/Cangzhou03/2023 (A/H5) virus in DMEM could be inactivated completely using any of the three heat treatment methods: 63 °C for 30 min, 72 °C for 15 s, or 80 °C for 15 s. For the virus present in milk, only heat treatment at 80 °C for 15 s completely inactivated it. These results suggest that milk prevents influenza viruses from pasteurization inactivation._____

#Bacteria is on its way to replace #cows to make #Milk reducing the #carbonfootprint dramatically. Unlike fermented meat, whihc at the moment all require fetal bovine serum, the bacteria just needs plant derived sugars and they can make all the exact same molecules that make milk milk. In the future dairy cows and goats will be only organically grown for high quality expensive cheeses. For the regular cheese, you can literally eat as much of it and be #vegan and not have to worry about its #carbon impacts, land use, hormones, steroids or puss production. They will most likely also be made with little to no lactose or have lactase included if the flavor will be off if they don't. They can even put original udder microbiota into the milk once produced and #pasteurization will not be needed because the entire plant will be sterile. -

#Inactivation of highly pathogenic avian #influenza virus with high #temperature short time continuous flow #pasteurization and virus #detection in bulk milk #tanks {Unpublished}, https://www.fda.gov/media/179708/download?attachment
Estimates from heat-transfer analysis support that standard continuous flow HTST pasteurization parameters will inactivate >12 log10 EID50/mL of HPAIV, which is ~9 log10 EID50/mL greater than the mean quantity of infectious virus detected in raw milk from bulk storage tank samples.
