I just finished this soft pastel piece that I'm calling 'Blue Pumpkin Winter Squash' although it's more of a pale blue-green and turquoise. I thought it might make nice greeting cards for autumn holidays.

'Peahen with Grape Leaf' just completed in soft pastel. The reference photo came from a contributor to the Facebook group Free Reference Photos for Artists. I added a leaf from my own grape vine just because I thought it needed something on that side.

Fox portrait created in soft pastel. I am particularly happy with how the eyes turned out. I always strive to put some life into the eyes and think I've succeeded here. I'm told that wildlife art can't compete with photography, but I think my version has a certain character.

This simple marigold pastel is from a few years ago. I'm getting ready to plant marigolds soon. These cheery and colorful blossoms really brighten up the summer garden and they are beneficial to plant among your vegetables.

My newest soft pastel work is a nigella flower, also called love-in-a-mist, on a pale blue-violet backdrop. This art has more of a calm, monotone color scheme. The details of the flower's center were a challenge.

I began working on this flamingo pastel last weekend during a demonstration. I wasn't sure I wanted to finish because I was using some lesser quality materials but decided to go ahead and I'm glad that I did. It is looser than my current style but I like it.

This pastel artwork is appropriate for the day. 'Clover on Purple' depicts a group of green leaves of the white clover plant. It's one of the first green things to appear in springtime and I like seeing it in the lawn.

This white duck used to be a member of our flock. She was the lone duck in a group of hens but she was the boss. I created this soft pastel portrait a few years ago. We had to re-home our flock last year because of city code enforcement even though we had them long before the laws were passed.

I believe that I've mentioned how much I enjoy working on white flowers in soft pastel. Magnolias are a favorite subject because we have a giant Southern magnolia tree in our back yard which blooms around May and provides me with a lot of inspiration.

Cheery yellow crocus flowers are the subject of this soft pastel artwork. Always a welcome sight in early spring, these blossoms bring a much-needed burst of color to the garden. The purple background enhances the yellow hue of the petals.

This toucan portrait features one of the more colorful birds that I've worked with in soft pastels. I like the whimsical tilt to his head and the multiple hues of the beak. This was on textured paper. I'll have to try one on the smoother Pastelmat that I now use sometime.
