In honor of #WorldPasswordDay, I looked at the Internet exposure of 5 different password manager products with web-accessible vaults.

Vaultwarden was the most popular by far (62% of instances observed), followed by Passbolt and Bitwarden.

I did a deeper dive on Vaultwarden and Bitwarden and was surprised to see how relatively current these instances were:

+ 64% of Bitwarden instances appear to be running a version ~6 months old or newer
+ 65% of Vaultwarden instances appear to be ~5 months old or newer

Tiens, je découvre passbolt, une alternative open source et européenne (Luxembourg) à Bitwarden qui semble assez crédible en terme de sécurité. https://www.passbolt.com/
Et sur le repo, il n'y a pas l'air d'avoir d'utilisation d'IA (du moins pas de "co-authored by Claude") et les mises à jour semblent régulières. Auto hébergeable et dispo gratuitement en community edition. Ça se teste :)

An alle, die #Vaultwarden oder #Passbolt selbst betreiben: habt ihr das über das Internet erreichbar gemacht? Wenn nicht, haben die Passwortmanager einen Offline-Mode?
Ich tendiere dazu, sowas im Homelab zu belassen. Nach Hause kommt man sowieso irgendwann und dann kann sich alles synchronisieren.

Meine Passwortverwaltung inkl. 2FA läuft seit ca. 1 Monat über Passbolt - Selfhosted. Während dieser Zeit wurde Stück für Stück eine Dokumentation im Git-Repository erstellt. Ein Cronjob sichert täglich die Daten und diese werden (aktuell) noch wöchentlich auf einen verschlüsselten USB-Stick gesichert. Highlight an der ganzen Sache ist ein interaktives Skript, welches einen neuen Server innerhalb von 10 - 15 min. auf den aktuellen Stand wiederherstellt. #passbolt #vps #vpn #selfhosted #ionos
