  2. Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger swiftly reshaped the University of Virginia’s board, appointing 10 new members and removing five Trump-era appointees from her predecessor’s tenure. This move follows over a year of partisan clashes—highlighted by efforts to oust university President James E. Ryan for supporting diversity initiatives and recent controversial agreements with the Trump administration to restrict diversity programs and impose new admissions policies. Spanberger’s actions aim to realign the university’s leadership amid ongoing ideological battles over its future direction. 3. If you hate this meme: is it the template, or the message? Or is there somewhere else I should post this question?

I recently made one of my best memes yet, but people on piefed/lemmy have hated it so far across multiple communities.

I’m seeing 2 reasons people might hate it:

    1. The format: it repurposes the Morpheus red pill / blue pill template, but with the red and blue being code for the US 2-party system, instead of the actual truth vs lie choice from the Matrix.
    2. The message: it includes that recklessly endangering people by blocking vaccine access doesn’t stop being bad just because you’re the one doing it, and that recklessly endangering people by blocking gun access is also bad.

A lot of people are telling me the negative reactions might mainly be for reason 1. It also might be making the message itself more confusing for people.

I think it’s more of reason 2, with piefed/Lemmy just having a high concentration of partisan Democrats, who just don’t want to let me have a gun, and don’t want to be reminded they shouldn’t be helping Republicans block my access to vaccines.

If you hate the meme, which is it for you? Or is it something else entirely?

If this isn’t the right community for this question, let me know where to take it

  4. Still looking for the right community for this meme

I get the vibe “lefty memes” is a misnomer, and an actual progressive like me won’t be accepted here, so I haven’t tried posting this here yet - but everywhere else I’ve posted this so far has hated it, so I’m trying here now.

I made this meme because I noticed parallels in how Republicans and Democrats coordinate to block access to guns and vaccines, violating my rights and putting me and my loved ones in senseless danger.

I’m not quite ready to give up on finding a community where people like this meme. I know it’s actually one of my most well-crafted ones yet, no matter what some people say.

    Red pill:

Let people who pretend to know nothing about vaccines decide who can get what vaccines

    Blue pill:

Let people who pretend to know nothing about guns decide who can get what guns

    Red pill:

Let the weapon industry dictate gun policy

    Blue pill:

Let big pharma dictate vaccine policy

  5. Still looking for the right community to post this in

The same way people who outnumber me are willing to get me or my loved ones killed by violating our rights with these ongoing (and worsening) gun and vaccine bans, they’ve also been willing to mass downvote me and respond with psychological abuse in all the communities I tried posting this in so far. Nobody wants to just straightforwardly say “fuck your life, how dare you try to escape slavery, we want to work corporate jobs and vote for politicians and wipe out all known life including ourselves, we’re not gonna listen about how you should be allowed to have guns and vaccines for some dumb shit like your safety when part of our cult’s whole deal is that everything should die, you might as well tell us to take individual action on climate change.” They have to play mental games about it instead.

But I feel like if I keep looking, I might be able to find somewhere on here that those people don’t have such an overwhelming majority, so I’m still trying to find the right place to post this.

I don’t know if political memes are allowed in this community. So far, I’ve mainly gotten downvotes and psychological abuse for posting this. The last place I posted got upvotes at first, but then it got buried in downvotes because someone edited a reply after I replied to make me look anti-vaxx, I think? I’m usually braced for downvotes after a past of over a decade on reddit, but that really got to me.

It hurts living in a society that not only disregards my rights, but also disregards my mental health by turning my attempts at discussion into opportunities to see how much they can mess with me mentally. It would probably be easier to deal with being outnumbered by authoritarians if they at least had the spines to simply tell me nobody cares about shit like my safety, and leave it at that.

    That’s enough venting, sorry.

  9. The Left’s Shameful Hypocrisy in the Government Shutdown: Anti-Worker Politics Disguised as Progressivism

The current government shutdown has exposed something deeply disturbing about the state of so-called progressivism in America. As the federal government teeters on the brink of chaos, there are voices, voices that claim to be on the left, calling for the shutdown to continue. They present it as some kind of moral or political strategy, a way to "punish" the administration or make a political statement. But what they fail—or refuse—to acknowledge is the human cost of this so-called […]

    Each group’s approach

    Progressive

If we get enough power, we will stop using your tax money to bomb brown kids / march towards extinction.

That will mean you’re free to work for your own survival. The savings will also let us cut taxes overall.

You might not hear these basic, obvious ideas every day. We’re so outnumbered by extinction cultists, it’s probably harder to encounter us than to encounter liars who say “banning guns is progress” or “leftists support starvation” or something. Lately, we’re basically not allowed to be famous in real life, so I’m just a picture of Captain Kirk from Star Trek.

    “Socialist”

If we get enough power, we will become “social workers” who give you basic needs like food and water in exchange for the time you spend explaining basic shit to us. However, we will constantly bitch at you about how hard it is to understand what you’re saying, and how we wish you would just join our extinction cult instead.

When we get tired of paying for your food and stuff, we aren’t really sure if we’ll kill you, or enslave you, or finally listen to what you’re saying / let you work for your own survival.

You’ve probably heard all these ideas before. Don’t worry. You’ll hear our ideas again, and again, and again. We’re one of the groups backed by the FCC.

    “Moderate right”

If we get enough power, we will enslave you for not willingly joining our extinction cult.

Social programs will be put in place to make sure you can’t be homeless, because you can’t be jobless.

We’ll keep your living/working conditions just tolerable enough to make you comply without killing you too fast.

You’ve probably heard all these ideas before. Don’t worry. You’ll hear our ideas again, and again, and again. We’re one of the groups backed by the FCC.

    “Far right”

If we get enough power, we will kill you ASAP for not joining our extinction cult.

We’ll call that “freedom” because we’ll be “free” to do whatever we want to outsiders: people who don’t follow the rules to be part of our in-group.

Since you’re dead, you won’t be able to argue “freedom” means “not having a bunch of dumb rules people can be killed for not following.”

You’ve probably heard all these ideas before. Don’t worry. You’ll hear our ideas again, and again, and again. We’re one of the groups backed by the FCC.
