South Korea's former President Yoon Suk Yeol faces prison or even the death penalty, but he is far from the first leader in the nation to have his term end in tatters. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/02/19/asia-pacific/politics/south-korea-leaders/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #asiapacific #politics #southkorea #yoonsukyeol #parkgeunhye #leemyungbak #samsung #rohmoohyun #chundoohwan #parkchunghee #yunposun #syngmanrhee

South Korea’s current turmoil shows how lingering authoritarian institutions continue to tempt presidents into abusing executive power, leaving civil society and the courts as the primary checks on overreach. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2026/01/19/world/yoon-suk-yeol-and-power-abuse/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #worldnews #southkorea #yoonsukyeol #nationalassembly #moonjaein #leejaemyung #rohtaewoo #leemyungbak #parkgeunhye #rohmoohyun #martiallaw

In South Korea, the judiciary has become a prominent pathway to political power, influenced both by public sentiment and by presidential appointments drawn from activist legal circles. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2025/05/07/world/south-korea-judiciary/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #worldnews #leejaemyung #yoonsukyeol #moonjaein #parkgeunhye #southkorea

According to disgraced #NIS run by crooks who later went to prison, under administration of disgraced and impeached president #ParkGeunHye a #UPP lawmarker "plotted to" (or possibly joked about, not 100% sure) "sabotage south korean infrastructure in the event that North Korea invades" (an event about as likely as martians landing)
