Capitolo 412: Puglia, Texas

Anche questo Ferragosto ce lo siamo tolto di mezzo. Il 15 è un po’ come il giro di boa dell’estate, superato quello si avvicina la nuova stagione e tutti quei propositi che troppo facilmente ci siamo appuntati per settembre. L’estate è quindi agli sgoccioli, si avvicina per me il rientro nella Città Eterna (e la ricerca della casa), le presentazioni del libro (il 28 agosto a Monopoli, il 18 settembre a Roma), il ritorno a una routine romana che, dopo tutte queste settimane in terra pugliese, comincia a mancarmi. Ciò che non manca mai, invece, è buon cinema. E allora andiamo a parlare di film!

Paris, Texas (1984): Quando ho saputo che avrebbero proiettato il capolavoro di Wim Wenders all’arena estiva di Polignano a Mare (se siete in zona, andateci: è magnifica), non ho esitato un istante a fiondarmici. Vincitore della Palma d’Oro a Cannes, è un’opera che ho scoperto in età adulta, soltanto cinque anni fa, ma che non mi è più uscita dal cuore. In questo film c’è tutto quello che amo vedere su uno schermo: la strada, il viaggio, un protagonista tormentato, nessun antagonista (se non gli eventi della vita), la giusta ironia, un sottofondo di malinconia e romanticismo, una fotografia stupefacente e una colonna sonora perfetta: una collezione di luoghi e personaggi da amare. Harry Dean Stanton sparisce per anni nel deserto e quando viene finalmente recuperato dal fratello, viene riportato a casa, dove incontra suo figlio, che ora ha 8 anni e praticamente non lo conosce. Al tempo stesso, il nostro cerca di scoprire dove sia invece finita la mamma del bambino (Nastassja Kinski), anche lei fuggita da diversi anni. Tre film in uno, una manciata di personaggi ai quali ti affezioni senza esitazioni, di cui vorresti conoscere il destino, di cui ti preoccupi continuamente. Una poesia di terra e fuoco, attraverso motel e bar, specchi e riflessi. Capolavoro.

Una Pallottola Spuntata (2025): Durante il primo atto ho riso più volte, ci stavo davvero credendo, ho pensato: “Cavolo, sta funzionando” (due o tre gag sono ottime). Poi le idee finiscono (più o meno con la comparsa in scena di un imbarazzante pupazzo di neve spiritato), le citazioni pure e quel che resta è una storia, che da pretesto diventa il punto del film: dove muore il passato e non c’è spazio per il futuro c’è solo un presente che, purtroppo, genera mostri. Inutile citare la trama, c’è il solito milionario dalle idee folli, c’è il solito protagonista che ne combina di tutti i colori, ci sono i soliti metodi bislacchi ma funzionali: ogni cosa però è lo squallido tentativo di replicare quello schema nel quale una volta lavoravano idee geniali, qui invece non ce ne sono. E allora lasciate che i morti riposino in pace, lasciate stare chi ha fatto sbellicare dalle risate una generazione intera.

Weapons (2025): Spinto da una serie di recensioni e commenti positivi (e da un trailer niente male), sono andato al cinema con le migliori intenzioni. Nel cuore di una notte, in una cittadina della Pennsylvania, alcuni bambini fuggono improvvisamente di casa. Dalle videocamere di sicurezza emerge che i ragazzi sono tutti scappati di loro spontanea volontà e, nei giorni seguenti, non si riesce a dare una spiegazione all’evento. Il capro espiatorio diventa Julia Garner, la maestra, visto che i bambini appartenevano tutti alla sua classe. La prima mezzora è bellissima, ha un debito con l’immaginario di Stephen King (soprattutto come ambientazione). L’effetto Rashomon, ovvero la struttura narrativa che racconta uno stesso evento da punti di vista diversi, funziona piuttosto bene e aggiunge di mano in mano nuovi tasselli alla storia, risolvendosi però in un finale purtroppo grottesco, poco coinvolgente, sul quale il film inevitabilmente si affloscia (difetto tipico di molti horror inizialmente promettenti, come il recente Longlegs, ad esempio, o il comunque buonissimo When Evil Lurks). La metafora sull’ipocrisia che si cela dietro le maschere sorridenti delle comunità di provincia è un po’ abusata e perde di potenza di film in film. Di Zach Cregger si era parlato bene con l’opera prima Barbarians (che non ho visto, lo recupererò) e anche qui riesce a tenere insieme qualche buona idea, ma nel complesso non va e, ripeto, la seconda metà del film è davvero un delitto (dai, ma veramente gli investigatori non avevano pensato a seguire la direzione dove convergono le fughe dei bambini? Meno male che c’è Josh Brolin a pensarci!).

L’Implacabile (1987): Il regista Paul Michael Glaser forse è più celebre come volto televisivo nei panni del detective Starsky nel telefilm Starsky e Hutch, chi è cresciuto negli anni 80 forse invece ricorderà questo action distopico che vede come protagonista Arnold Schwarzenegger. Nel futuro 2017 (sic) alcuni detenuti possono ottenere la grazia partecipando a una trasmissione televisiva di successo, dove devono attraversare alcuni quadranti sotterranei della città senza finire uccisi dagli “sterminatori” spediti appositamente dal programma per rendere la missione più complicata. Schwarzy è ingiustamente accusato di aver massacrato un gruppo di persone inermi, che chiedeva solo cibo (la scena, vista oggi, è inquietante per l’attinenza con le cronache di questi mesi) e finisce con il diventare un perfetto concorrente per il programma. Nonostante le premesse abbastanza ridicole (e nonostante l’accento e la recitazione “canina” di Schwarzenegger), il film ha un suo perché, funziona, diverte, con una strepitosa colonna sonora da videogame anni 80 e la struttura stessa che sembra quella di un videogioco per Amiga. Se un film del genere l’avesse diretto qualcuno come George Miller, probabilmente staremmo qui a parlare di un cult assoluto. A ogni modo, a settembre uscirà un remake con protagonista Glen Powell, The Running Man.

It’s the annual re-watch of #ParisTexas, my favorite #WimWenders film. As masterful as Wenders’ direction is, the film would be unthinkable without cinematographer #RobbyMüller.
