Are they though? I presume @parismarx has checked before saying this in public. But ...
Electric engines are much lighter than combustion engines. Which have many more moving parts, some of which need to be made from material dense enough to withstand constant explosions. Doesn't removing all this balance out battery weight?

@chfrankcgn #ParisMarx is not a direct source. The direct source is #AshleyVance. Who he *actually* told he was serious about the #Hyperloop project, but that he also hoped #CAHSR would be cancelled.
When #HyperloopAlpha was released, it was presented as an "open source transportation concept", not something SpaceX/Musk planned to build themselves, and initially #TBC focused on #Loop instead. It was a few years later that TBC confirmed that they actually intended Hyperloop too.
