  1. "... you certainly have still, a lot of tech billionaires still giving money to the Democrats ..."

    #ParisMarx, 2024

    Of course, this is what billionaires do. They give millions to both campaigns, so whoever wins, they get stuff they want.

    "Elon Musk has given $574,500 to Republicans and $542,000 to the Democrats, per OpenSecrets."

  2. As a palate-cleanser, here's Paris Marx talking about the new Liberal leader in Canada, Mark Carney, and all the leftish stuff he's doing *in advance* of the federal elections there, despite pitching himself as a move to the centre;

    Are they though? I presume @parismarx has checked before saying this in public. But ...

    Electric engines are much lighter than combustion engines. Which have many more moving parts, some of which need to be made from material dense enough to withstand constant explosions. Doesn't removing all this balance out battery weight?

  4. Tech Bros:

    „As the United States declares war on the economies and people that were once its closest friends, it’s time for its global power and influence to be reined in once and for all. Instead of allowing the US government to continue to bully and threaten countries around the world, its Western allies must team up with friends in the Global South not just to force the United States into line, but to tackle the power of its out-of-control tech industry once and for all.“

  8. CW: Long thread/30

    Amazon's chief economist told his colleagues that the ad business would "reduce selection, are not relevant to the customer’s search, and/or lead to increases in prices."

    In her excellent interview with Tech Won't Save Us's #ParisMarx, Weigel was critical of the way that the antitrust movement thinks about Amazon, accusing modern trustbusters of being concerned with competition for its own sake.

    When was released, it was presented as an "open source transportation concept", not something SpaceX/Musk planned to build themselves, and initially focused on instead. It was a few years later that TBC confirmed that they actually intended Hyperloop too.
