in less than a week, my blossyqueer flag will have its first year anniversary (on april 8th, to be exact) - i'm not necessarily posting this to ask anyone to make anything for the occasion (though obviously feel free if you like), but because it feels like a noteworthy milestone to myself. i can't believe it's been this long already.
since my original coining post is no longer online, i'm reposting the flag design on here (including a description of it), and will also put the rest of my original coining post in the replies under this.

i believe that, at the end of the day, if a particular label (including contact labels) resonates with someone, they should be free to identify with it. what i don't support though is if someone with a certain label views everyone who isn't neatly aligned with their own idea of the world as their enemy and evil and inherently abusive.
if someone is not using the anti-c label, that is not the same thing as them identifying as whatever "pro-c" means to you. let people speak for themselves instead of assuming you know everything about them without ever having talked to them.
and, more generally, stop ascribing labels to folks.

the mainstream zoo community on twitter is not fond of contact terminology, this is something most folks on there have probably already been aware of for the longest time.
what the zoo community on twitter does not seem to get yet is that, despite how it may seem, it's not only zoos that have been wanting to step away from contact terminology. hell, the most anti-para voices on that app have even been pointing out exactly why that is: contact labels are not useful in figuring out who is or isn't being abusive or harmful in some way. it is, therefore, only logical that the para community at large isn't all that fond of contact terminology either. on twitter perhaps, but you should all be aware that twitter, especially these days, is not exactly a suitable place for paras to exist - most paras have their online circles elsewhere.
to get to the point, there's inherent hypocrisy in how zoos on twitter have been wanting to not be associated with contact terminology, yet insist that other paras continue using it. not just because double standards suck, but because in doing so they're pretty much just assuring that the whole situation of others hiding behind labels in order to pretend they've done no wrong is not being actually addressed, only pushed out of sight. they're doing the entire opposite of preventing abuse by doing this.
nobody should be relying on contact labels to judge whether someone else is or has been an abuser or not. nobody.

I've done some changes to the group.
saying its gotten so big, I've started to worry about bad actors joining in that I can't catch. because their are just so many people. (130+) (more if you include ones that join of the other owner)
the group is now kind of gonna be word of mouth invite.
either get a friend that is already in the group and trusted to DM me.
or DM yourself.
Kind of sucks I've gotta do this but I don't want to be in one of those VRC exposed videos lol
there is also a telegram group with 70 people now.
too join that also DM me^^ (its the main place for organizing events and is also a pretty good place to talk)

I’ve got news/announcement to make…
the group now has 100+members!
I’m honestly so proud of how far I’ve managed to come with the group in so little time!
thank you too all of you who’ve joined and have been making my dream a reality :D
in other news this group is now being merged with another VRC furry para group
hence the massive increase in people
which means the group is now run by me and one other
and that it’s only going to increase in size!!!
meetups will now happen outside of saturday and thursdays but the ones run by me will be on those dates
any other instance will mostly likely be run by Vel the other group owner^^
so expect a lot more activity and a lot of new faces :3

(update: i've decided to call it the "blossyqueer flag" for the time being, until i can think of a better name)
i coined a flag the other day - originally i wanted to create one just to represent my gender, but it took a lot of attempts and ultimately turned more into something representing my values than anything else.
i ended up making a fusion of the zoo flag and the radqueer flag, which i guess is appropriate given i started out in the more mainstream zoo community on twitter (which i feel still has a long way to go in terms of queer acceptance), whereas by now i've branched out a lot more into all-encompassing radical queer advocacy - a step that to me is only logical given that i tend to try my best to be consistent in my views, and to support one group of marginalized queer folks but not another would be hypocrisy.
the blue heart represents love for oneself, and the purple heart represents love for others. the diagonal stripe with the gradient on it represents radical acceptance of and advocacy for people regardless of what attractions they might have. the crown represents standing strong when faced with bigotry, and being a beacon of hope and positivity for others.

since i've seen this topic pop up again recently… some thoughts regarding my perspective on people associating with zeta symbology and the perception of them by the para community at large:
it's definitely not all zeta aligned folks who feed into bigoted rhetoric - there's a bunch of cool people out there using the flag/symbol (i used to associate with it more directly until not too long ago myself as well) however… there's sadly definitely zoos who think they're somehow something better or more deserving of acceptance (as if antis would ever realistically care about that), and a ton of others who just go along with that / don't say anything or even get upset when others don't put up with bigotry and double standards, calling the pushback stuff along the lines of "overreacting" and acting as if standing for other paras for a couple days at best should somehow be enough. bigotry is never justified, it must never be allowed to pass. pointing out hate and feeling hurt over getting dismissed or downplayed is not an overreaction. if you don't want to be viewed as queerphobes or paramisics, you need to draw a line when it comes to hate. you can't only bother to speak up when harmful rhetoric gets pointed out to you - you need to actively be on the lookout for it and help push back against it.
"what's in it for me?", some might ask in response. certain people try to make standing up against anti-para rhetoric and sentiment out to be "zoos losing focus" or something when in reality what this really is, is just… consistency. it should come without saying that no amount of bigotry must be allowed to go unchecked lest we slowly open the gates to our own cultural demise, even if at first it might not feel that way to assimilationists. if you allow hate to continue to exist, it's only a matter of time before it becomes directed towards you. so… you are securing your own existence by standing together with other paras.
we are in no position to get lost in thought about who is supposedly better or less icky, nor will we reach that point in the foreseeable future in my eyes. next time an anti tries to compare one type of attraction to another, instead of going "ew, no!", consider responding with "so what?" instead, or better yet, simply don't entertain them at all. it's hardly ever worth it, they want to make us all look bad by trying to divide us first so we're easier to demonize.
